After Watching "Sex Education" I Have Serious Questions For The British Populace

Please answer me, I feel so lost.

    🚨Mild spoilers ahead!!🚨

Recently, after the incessant badgering from my friends — I started to watch Sex Education. Two days and two seasons later here I am — in love with the show, but also confused as hell.

^ Me, with all my questions.

    1. First off, why is it always sunny? I thought it was meant to rain constantly in Britain.

There's that one episode in Season 2 when it starts pouring during Otis' camping trip with his his dad — but seriously, one episode out of 16 doesn't seem like a good representation of England.

    2. And when it does inevitably rain, how do Eric and Otis get to school? Riding their bikes in the rain must suuuck.

Surely they don't just chuck on a raincoat and peddle onwards.

    3. Do all British schools look like fancy castles that have a ghost or two in the attic?

In comparison, the "grounds" of my high school was an empty clearing that a kangaroo sometimes got loose on.

    4. And why is it, that with this extremely fancy school, no one is in uniform?

Maybe I've watched too many British boarding school movies, but I thought you guys were like us and had to wear uniforms.

    5. Surely, there would be at least a dress code?!

Some sort of colour to adhere to, or hem length you had to keep in mind while getting ready? No? Just us then.

    6. What year is this show set in? Because we've got smartphones, but the fashion and cars seem to be hella retro.

Which, don't get me wrong, I am not mad at. But it just keeps me up at night. Are the Brits returning to the '80s and do I need to get involved?

    7. Why is swimming the only major sport at this British high school? I thought you were all rugby and cricket fans.

And don't even get me started on all those ~English gentleman~ sports that I have yet to see here.

    8. And why is there no mention of FOOTBALL?

My boyfriend gets up at ridiculous hours to watch Crystal Palace play live, and you're telling me that there's no mention of football anywhere in this show?! Isn't it a national past time?

    9. When Maeve's brother mixed a drink for Jackson on school grounds — are you seriously telling me NO ONE confiscated it?

By the time I was 12, there was a "no-open container" rule at our school dances. As if none of the teachers knew what was happening here!

    10. Also, is everyone just really chill about selling grog to underage teens?

When Adam sold booze to the kids on the way to Otis' party, there was no checking for ID or concern that he'd be charged mega $$$$$ for selling to them. Maybe that's just in Oz?

    11. The same with Maeve always smoking cigarettes. In Oz, you have to be 18 to buy them — is that not the same in Britain?

Or was it more an ~artistic~ choice to have Maeve smoking?

    12. Why is there just a random abandoned train/car dumping ground where they all go to smash things?

I can't get a clear picture of this town in my head. All I've got is the school, Otis' house, Maeve's caravan, and some random interconnecting roads that somehow lead to this junkyard.

    13. Why is there not a school bus? I thought all schools had bus routes where they just went around and picked up the kids.

I'm from a very small town and we still had multiple bus routes. (Also necessary side note: The handling of the Aimee and bus storyline was AH-mazing!)

    14. How come none of the teachers made the students stop dry humping in the school?

When the students weren't having actual sex, they're still rolling around on the grounds or eating their faces off on the front steps. I can't believe that a teacher didn't stop and yell "30cm rule people!".

    15. And finally, what the hell do I have to do to get a house like Otis'?

It looks like an honest to god dream.
