Miley Cyrus has fully shed the Bangerz era — she's ditched the ganga, grown out her hair, and she's making music closer to her country roots than ever before. On Friday, she released a new, Elvis-inspired single titled "Younger Now," and it's clear we're getting a whole new Miley this time around:
But unless you've been a diehard Miley stan for the past decade, you might've missed all the subtle, fan-speculated references to her past throughout the video. Let's break it down:
The video starts off with Miley in a bed, much similar to the beginning of the "Start All Over" video, the second and final single of Cyrus's debut album, Meet Miley Cyrus.
Miley then wields a guitar in front of a purple backdrop, very similar to the video for her smash power ballad, "The Climb."
Miley ends up sticking to a wall in one of those terrifying fair rides, in what seems like a lowkey reference to her video for 2010's "Can't Be Tamed."
And lastly, Miley sings with a doll through the video, similar to a scene from the infamous "We Can't Stop" video:
Given the song's lyrics centered around change, the references in the video make total sense!
