My cousin, to her dad, when he was trying to pull her off the stage at our family reunion: “Stop this nonsense!”
When James Holmes commits mass murder in a movie theater and is taken into custody alive, but an unarmed black teenager is gunned down fleeing the scene, then yes, it is racially motivated. It really doesn’t matter what the facts surrounding the incident are aside from that. It doesn’t matter if he assaulted the officer and then ran away. The facts are he was unarmed, and he was fatally shot at long range. No one is saying the officer hates black people. What we are saying is that there is an unconscious fear of black people that motivates the use of excessive force like this. We don’t know whose story is right. I’m inclined to believe that it is somewhere in the middle, as both parties are going to alter their stories in their own interest. Even if the story goes 100% as the cop tells it, though, it is still murder, and it is not justified.
