    BuzzFeed Month In Review

Osama, The Rapture, and Penis Shoes! Using a special recipe of the biggest trending topics, the most viral posts from BuzzFeed users, staff, and partners, we've compiled the definitive list of the most viral stories from the last month!

    • Bin Laden Killed

The month of May began with the biggest news story of the century so far.
Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was killed by US Navy Seals on the night of May 1st, and promptly buried at sea in accordance with his religious beliefs. Although victory celebrations erupted across the US, it soon became apparent from Facebook messages that conspiracy theorists, naysayers, and ignorant kids couldn't comprehend the gravity of the situation.

    • Elsewhere online, image macros, headswaps, and all sorts of memetic iterations poured forth, including a wide variety of parody videos. Amidst the larger story of Bin Laden's death was a renewed interest in military dogs.

    • Arnold's Child

Shortly after leaving the governor's office in January, Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted to fathering a baby with Mildred Baena, a former member of his house staff.

    • Middleton Siblings Sexy Photo Scandals

Following last month's Royal Wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William, celeb gossip rags began scouring for trashy photos of Kate's siblings. Soon enough, a photo of James Middleton mooning the camera emerged, followed by a photo of Pippa Middleton dancing in her bra.

    • Getting Old

For some reason, aging was a big theme in a lot of our most viral stories this month. Our own Matt Stopera compiled a list of 40 Things That Will Make You Feel Old, and Dave Stopera put together a list of 20 Celebrities Who Used To Be Hot. The New York Post speculated that the choice to go with an all country music themed finale for American Idol was the move of an aging show for aging audiences.

    • Am I Wearing Pants?

BuzzFeed's Amy Sly put together this helpful flowchart to help resolve this fashion faux pas. Am I Wearing Pants?.

    • The Most Hipster State In The US

    • Nerdiest Correction Ever

The New York Times delighted Lord Of The Ring fans this month for this correction in the Sports section. Nerds read the sports page? I don't. Must be some other nerds.
