    • Bin Laden Killed

      The month of May began with the biggest news story of the century so far.
      Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was killed by US Navy Seals on the night of May 1st, and promptly buried at sea in accordance with his religious beliefs. Although victory celebrations erupted across the US, it soon became apparent from Facebook messages that conspiracy theorists, naysayers, and ignorant kids couldn't comprehend the gravity of the situation.

    • Elsewhere online, image macros, headswaps, and all sorts of memetic iterations poured forth, including a wide variety of parody videos. Amidst the larger story of Bin Laden's death was a renewed interest in military dogs.

    • Arnold's Child

      Shortly after leaving the governor's office in January, Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted to fathering a baby with Mildred Baena, a former member of his house staff.

    • Tornadoes

      On May 22nd, multiple tornadoes ripped through the Mississippi River valley, heavily battering Minneapolis, MN and killing over 100 in Joplin, MO.

    • The Rapture

      Evangelical Christian and owner of Family Radio, Harold Camping declared that May 21st would be the date of the biblical Rapture.  In the lead-up to the Holy event, views and sharing of rapture-themed posts sky-rocketed, including 50 Reasons Why The World Is Definitely Ending, and 32 Pictures You Need To See Before You Die. We put together an entire Rapture Feed for easy viewing. but by May 22nd when we were all still here on Earth, Camping announced that the REAL rapture will come in October.

    • Randy Savage Dies

      Former professional wrestler Randy "The Macho Man" Savage died tragically in a car crash the night of May 21st. In his memory, round-ups of his greatest videos and best tribute songs were created, not to mention a boost in mentions of snapping into a Slim Jim.

    • Middleton Siblings Sexy Photo Scandals

      Following last month's Royal Wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William, celeb gossip rags began scouring for trashy photos of Kate's siblings. Soon enough, a photo of James Middleton mooning the camera emerged, followed by a photo of Pippa Middleton dancing in her bra.

    • Getting Old

      For some reason, aging was a big theme in a lot of our most viral stories this month. Our own Matt Stopera compiled a list of 40 Things That Will Make You Feel Old, and Dave Stopera put together a list of 20 Celebrities Who Used To Be Hot. The New York Post speculated that the choice to go with an all country music themed finale for American Idol was the move of an aging show for aging audiences.

    • Lady Gaga's Penis Shoes

      Rumored to be censored on TV (a rumor which proved false), Lady Gaga sported a pair of phallic high heels on American Idol earlier this month.

    • The Most Hipster State In The US

      If you've ever wondered why New York's infamous (and nebulous) hipster demographic is so fond of flannel shirts, bikes, and farmer's markets, look no further than Minnesota for the most likely source of inspiration.

    • Bill Nye Image Macros

      If you grew up watching Bill Nye The Science Guy, and you like putting words on images, then chances are you're partially to blame for the 10 Best Bill Nye Image Macros.

    • Ultimate Dog Tease

      One of the most shared viral videos of the month was this cute overdub of a dog being mercilessly teased by his owner.

    • Kreayshawn

      Although not technically one of our most viral posts, Kreayshawn's video for her song Gucci Gucci could be considered the breakout sleeper hit of the month, with the Oakland-based white girl rapper poised to make big waves in the weeks ahead.

    • Nerdiest Correction Ever

      The New York Times delighted Lord Of The Ring fans this month for this correction in the Sports section. Nerds read the sports page? I don't. Must be some other nerds.
