Team Up With Jake Peralta And Try To Solve This Murder Case

Jake investigates the body. What do you investigate first?

The room shows no signs of a break in so you both decide the victim must've at least known the suspect. You walk toward the body when you notice a little jewel.

Just then the husband walks in, devastated. He said he was on a business trip when it happened. However, Jake thinks he's lying. You:

Jake gently asks the husband if he could verify his trip with his employer. Turns out, he did go on that trip. The husband mentions the victim's best friend and how he suspects it might be her. Jake is still suspicious of him.

You talk to the victim's best friend, and she said that the two had been fighting for a while now. She believes the husband did it. You:

Back at the precinct, you and Jake discuss the clues. Something isn't adding up. You tell him about the jewel that you found lying on the floor. He thinks that could help the case. He suggests checking the CCTV footage.

The CCTV footage is grainy, but you notice the best friend going into the apartment. You:

You and Jake go back to the best friend's house to question her. But on the way there, you notice the husband down the street. You:

As the best friend calmly answers questions, you notice the missing jewel in her shoe. You ask her about it and she visibly grows nervous. She says she lost it years ago.

Jake catches your drift and asks her again about the night of the murder. She starts crying and lets it slip that she only did it for love. After calming her down, she finally says "I can explain."

As you and Jake take her to the precinct, you tell Jake there's still a missing piece. Why did she say "I only did it for love"?

Turns out, your hunch is right! What was the motive?
