Unless otherwise specified, all sizes in this post are listed in women's.

1. An oversized wool coat that envelopes you like an absolute dream with its drop shoulders, statement lapel collar, and massive pockets. Like really — you could fit a Chipotle burrito in there.

I have this coat in toffee and it is SO freakin' comfy. When they say oversized they're not joking — so size down if you want more of a fitted look. I am usually a 12/14 or a L/XL and I went with the M/OS size which is still veryyyyy generously sized but I like it. It's one of those pieces you can throw on over anything and look exceptionally pulled together while still staying warm and comfortable!

Get it from Lattelier for $189 (originally $199; available in sizes XXXS–XXL and in five colors).

2. A pair of fleece-lined leggings so incredibly soft and warm, you just won't believe it. If you've been eyeing a pair from Spanx but don't have $100 to shell out, they're a great dupe!,

Promising review: "I purchased these faux-leather leggings during a late-night Amazon shopping spree. They don't look faux at all, are well-made, and I receive compliments on them every time I wear them. They are also extremely comfortable and fit like a second skin. They are super warm so I probably would not wear in warmer weather but are perfect for the fall and winter. They shape well and stay put! There is no rolling or slipping down with these babies. Put them on and they are going to stay where you put them. I love them!" —Kelly C. Albanese

Get them from Amazon for $29.99+ (available in sizes XS–4X Regular and Tall and in four styles).

3. A pair of fuzzy mittens because if you're anything like me, you refuse to stop getting iced coffee even when it's only 10 degrees out. Protect your skin mitts with these faux-fur mitts and you're good, bb!

Urban Outfitters

Get them from Urban Outfitters for $25 (available in three colors/designs).

4. A corduroy button-down that'll help you nail that "oh, this? I just threw it on" look that all of your favorite stars have down. (I'm looking at you, Dakota Johnson.), Amazon

Promising review: "I’m a big boutique shopper and wasn’t confident in buying a corduroy button-up from any of them for $55–$90 that I wasn’t even sure I would like. So I checked Amazon and found this one and I’m OBSESSED. Such light material and great quality — perfect for a chilly night when you just want to throw something on over a cute outfit. Already got compliments on it and I haven’t even been wearing it for a week! I’m so obsessed that I’m buying another color!! Totally recommend. :)" —kevin murdock

Get it from Amazon for $34.99 (available in sizes S–XXL and in 13 colors/designs).

5. A pair of Ugg Ultra Mini Ankle Boots so you can pad around in peak "Yes, I follow TikTok trends even though I'm 30" fashion.

Promising review: "I love the lower profile of these Ugg boots so I can wear them with jeans without the legs of the jeans bunching up or having to pull them over the boot. The heel is firm so it's easy to get my foot into it without the heel crushing up. I have been an Ugg wearer for several decades now and this is my favorite pair." —J-Good

Get them from Amazon for $139.95 (available in sizes 5–12 and in eight colors).

6. A simple mock-neck belted sweater dress because sometimes, just having to change out of PJs and then pick out undergarments is already more than I can handle.

Lane Bryant

Get it from Lane Bryant for $89.95 (available in sizes 10/12–26/28).

7. A teddy coat that's positively hibernation ready but also sophisticated thanks to its tailored silhouette and large lapels. You can use it to dress up any outfit including the most basic (no haters) leggings and a tee.,

Promising review: "GUYS, OMG this jacket is definitely a hidden gem. It's so soft and makes you look so sophisticated!! It does shed a little at first, so definitely wash this before you wear it unless you want little specks all over your clothes — I learned the hard way LOL. However, I wore this outfit pictured in 50-degree-Fahrenheit weather and it kept me warm! This is definitely one of those 'blanket — but make it fashion' pieces HAHA I love it so much."— @KATHY_VU

Get it from Amazon for $49.99+ (available in sizes S–3XL and 10 colors).

8. A trusty pair of opaque tights you can slip on under skirts and dresses (heck — even distressed denim) on days when the windchill is notttttt playing.

Nude Barre

Nude Barre is a woman-owned small biz from Erin Carpenter. Her specialty line of underwear and hosiery has set out to revolutionize the term "nude" with 12 inclusive shades that speak to all skin tones — including those that are most often underrepresented.

I am a lover of tights — v controversial take, I know — but I *am* picky when it comes to material/fit and I think these babies are keepers. I just wore them to our holiday party and they didn't roll, pinch, slip, stretch out, or rip after hours of eating/drinking/watching a table-side magic show/finally meeting my coworkers in person 🙃 (#PandemicHire). Some tights are too thick and wear more like leggings which I am not a fan of but these are comfortably thin (they're 85% nylon and 15% spandex) while still being surprisingly durable. I have really long nails right now and didn't get any tears or runs pulling them on or off so thus far they're winners!

Promising review: "Color is true to my skin tone, and super comfy. I'm an Asian American with tanner skin (bronze-y and honey undertone), so 10 AM is a perfect match! The quality is impeccable, so soft and smooth, they glide on smoothly. This is definitely a great wardrobe essential everyone needs." —Anonymous

Get them from Nude Barre for $22 (available in sizes S/M–4XL/5XL and in 13 shades).

9. A one-and-done black jumpsuit if the ***one thing*** you miss about private school or your first fast-food job was the convenience of throwing on your uniform and getting out the door.

Warp + Weft

10. An oversized plaid shacket that my family back in New Hampshire would really get a kick out of cause they've been wearing them for function, not fashion (and since before I was born), but here we are!, Amazon

Promising review: "So much cuter than I expected! It fits loose and boxy, as you’d expect a jacket to be. Layers over tees great. The fabric is thicker than a flannel, but still very soft. Great construction and quality. Shipped fast, too!" —Michelle Roetman

Get it from Amazon for $29.98+ (available in sizes S–XL and in seven colors).

11. Or a longer plaid shacket because it's FINALLY the season for lots of layers and — in case you haven't been on social media in a hot second — this look is in, bb.

Get it from Revolve for $158 (available in sizes XS–L and in two colors).

Same model wearing the sweater in black

This top is part of a collab from The Drop x @lucyswhims (aka style blogger Suyapa Lucy).

Promising review: "Love, love, love this sweater. The buckle detail at the neck gives this sweater a unique and edgy look. It's cut oversized so it drapes comfortably on the body. It's an easy piece to throw on and go. My favorite way to wear this is tucked in the front with skinny jeans and a pair of shoes. Any pair of shoes depending on the look I'm going for that day because this sweater goes with EVERYTHING." —Amy

Get it from Amazon for $45.98 (available in sizes XXS–XXL, 2X–3X, and in two colors).

13. A five-pack of knit socks that'll come in handy whether you're lounging around at home with cold tootsies or slipping on booties to run some errands. (AKA walk around Target and see what calls your name.)

knit socks in five different color combinations

Promising review: "I love them. I waited to rate them until after I had washed a pair. There was very little shrinkage and I absolutely love the patterns and colors.

"They would make really great stocking stuffers though I am not willing to share." —ET

Get them from Amazon for $12.99 (available in 31 color combinations/designs).

14. A pair of ~comfort stretch~ flared high-rise jeans because, as we all know, fashion is cyclical and wide-leg denim is back for its seventh (or so) moment in the sun.

American Eagle

Promising review: "I love everything about these jeans because you can wear them for multiples occasions. No matter where you are going you can make an amazing outfit with them. For a casual Sunday you could wear the jeans with a bodysuit and white sneakers. For a Saturday night you can wear them with a nice blouse and high heels. Or, for a casual Friday at your job you can wear them with a white T-shirt, black blazer, and boots. They are super easy to style and create new outfits. A basic in your closet. I just love them, best purchase ever!" —Lucia

Get it from Naked Cashmere for $165 (available in sizes XS–L and in three colors).

16. A pair of Birkenstock's ultra-popular Arizona sandals lined with ~winter-friendly shearling~ for those who can't bear to put away their Birks even once snow starts falling.

And don't worry — the winterized sandals feature the brand's same signature cork-latex footbed and two-strap design, so comfort and quality aren't a question.

Promising review: "OMG I LOVE THESE! So comfy, warm, and fun. I’m an educator and on my feet all day long and my feet feel great at the end of the day! I love being able to really extend my sandal season with theses, too!" —Amazon Customer

Get them from Amazon for $110+ (available in sizes 5–15 and 11 colors).

17. A ponytail-/messy-bun-friendly beanie ready for winter #OOTD selfies and startlingly cold temps. A hole at the top of the hat allows them to pull their hair through with ease and an elastic keeps their do in place.,

Promising review: "This is probably one of the best purchases I've ever made. I know it's just a hat, but every winter I've fought with my long, thick hair and unless you can relate, you will never understand how wonderful and brilliant this design is...No longer will I have to choose between being cute and being warm. With this hat, I get to be both!...This hat has a hole specifically for my hair! It's like it was made for me! Also, I can still wear it with my hair down and, because of the beanie's design, you can't really tell there's a hole at the end. The hole is elastic, too, which is a neat feature. Not elastic enough to be a hair tie, but just enough that it stretches over my mound of hair and holds tight to my bun, so no snow gets in if I wipeout and if I'm going down a massive hill with great speed and my beanie tries to fly off, the elastic hold onto my bun and I never lose my hat. It really is the little things." — Kali

Get it from Amazon for $17.99 (available in 118 colors).

18. A pair of slouchy faux-leather pants with a high-waisted design and ankle-baring cut so you can up the ante with your coolest footwear, too.

19. A cozy sweater dress that, as you can see below, looks fan-freaking-tastic with thigh-high boots but can also be belted or worn with tights. (Unpopular opinion: I LOVE wearing tights and would happily do so year-round if it was cool enough out.),

Promising review: "I’ve had several people ask where I got it. It’s so warm and soft, I could literally sleep in it. It’s easy to dress down with leggings or belt it and throw on some tights and knee-high boots and you’re date ready." —Marci Fagan

Get it from Amazon for $23.85+ (available in sizes S–XL and in 15 colors/patterns).

20. An exceptionally soft cashmere sweater you can turn to on days when you feel like putting zero effort into your outfit but you still want to look perfectly pulled together.

ParrishLA is a small, woman-founded knitwear brand from Lauren Parrish Walker.

Get it from ParrishLA for $198 (available in sizes XS–XL and in four colors).

21. A 4-in-1 Universal Standard puffer with a removable hood and bottom so you can skate through late fall and the freezing winter temps without the need for more than one coat.

Universal Standard

Universal Standard is a woman-founded brand that creates inclusive designs in sizes 00–40. During the design process, each piece is fit on a model of every size so you'll get a more reliable, comfortable cut than garments created via a static formula.

Get it from Universal Standard for $298 (available in sizes 00/0–38/40 and in three colors).

22. An oversized waffle-knit sweater that can be styled three different ways: one shoulder, double off-the-shoulder, or as a classic V-neck. Reviewers all agree it's a perfect dupe for many of Free People's most popular thermals.,

Promising review: "Love this sweater! Super cute and very comfy! I love the elastic waist so you can flip over and tuck under without having to tuck in and it stays in place that way. Fabric is super soft. I love the deep V-neck on front and back giving a little extra style to a basic sweater. Can wear to the office or with jeans. I've already bought two and might get more, one of those great staple items to your wardrobe." —Designer77

23. A pair of Dr. Martens that can not only keep up with daily wear for more than a decade (I attest to this!) but also add some serious edge to your silk midi skirt + sweater combo.

a pair of 1460s in black
Dr. Marten

I am obsessed with Dr. Martens — thanks, in part, to four years at a Doc-lovin' liberal arts college. I own a shameful amount of Chelseas, platforms, and 1460s — some of which I've retired but will never have the heart to part with. These boots last foreverrrrrrr. And the ones I don't wear anymore are still in perfectly good shape, they're just from phases I've grown out of (namely florals). My favorite ones I've been wearing for 10 years now and the soles and leather are still in incredible condition. You will, of course, have to go through the dreaded break-in period (wear multiple pairs of socks AND Band-Aids!) but once that's over, you'll forget all about the pain.

Promising review: "Bought my first pair of eight holes in the late '80s. The love is still strong 30 years later with the purchase of green eight holes!" —Carl B.

Get them from Amazon (available in sizes 5–11 and seven colors) or Dr. Martens for $150 (available in sizes 5–12 and in nine colors).

24. Or a pair of Aussie-adored, beat-'em-into-the-ground Blundstones that'll still bounce back after countless romps through mud puddles, snowbanks, and even cow manure.

I've had the 1615s for two winters now and I basically wear them every day. They don't have a break-in period (in my experience, anyways), they run true to size, and aside from being tough as nails, the best part is how lightweight they are. As someone who is guilty of dragging their feet, that last part prevents lots of trips and falls!

Promising review: "I kept these boots in my cart for nearly a month because I was hesitant to spend $200 on another pair of shoes. But they don’t lie when they say the best things are worth the wait (whoever the heck 'they' are). I put them on as soon as I got them and I may even wear them to bed. They’re incredibly comfortable and feel like they’ll last as long as a $200 pair of boots should. They’re true to size. The ankle part is a bit snug but the tabs on either end help to pull them on and I’m sure they’ll loosen up with time. This is my first Amazon review all just to tell you to buy these boots. Update: I’ve had these boots for a few months now and they have loosened up just swell and I’m still wearing them even when it’s hot as heck and my ankles are sweating." —Brandy

Get them from Amazon for $123.31+ (available in sizes 5–14 and in five colors).

25. A cropped faux-shearling jacket to emulate your favorite faux-fur throw. If you can't be on your couch wrapped up in its embrace all night long, this is at least the next best thing.

26. A three-piece hat, glove, and scarf set if you love a matchy-matchy look but lost last season's go-to set.

New York & Company

27. A chunky oversized sweater guaranteed to keep you snug as a bug in a rug even though you're a human who exists exclusively in Spanx faux-leather leggings.,

Promising review: "To say I am obsessed is an understatement!!! Everywhere I go, I get compliments on this sweater! It’s so soft and not too thick, so it’s perfect for warmer places because I can get that fall feeling without sweating. It’s a beautiful orange and looks more expensive in person than it is! Now I want to order all the colors LOL." —Stephanie Mason

Get it from Amazon for $29.99+ (available in sizes S–XXL and in 19 colors/patterns).

28. An oversized plaid peacoat you can throw on over anything and immediately look like an incognito celeb — especially if you throw sunglasses and a beanie into the mix.

Get it from Rebdolls for $89.99 (available in sizes M–L and 1X–5X).

29. A crisscross backless sweater that's all business in the front but party in the back because despite the fact that you only wear neutrals, you're never one to be boring.

Promising review: "Just the right sweater to take you from summer to fall. I’d love this in all colors! Fits exactly how I expected and material is comfortable. Love the back! I ordered the small in light gray." —Jennifer Smith

Get it from Amazon for $35.95+ (available in sizes S–XL and in eight colors).

30. An oversized ~vegan~-leather blazer if the only thing your fall outfits are missing is some serious textural OOMPH.

Promising review: "Truly cannot wait to wear this staple piece this fall — dresses, jeans, work attire, date nights, fall I come!!!! It's a buttery-soft piece that is just long enough to be paired with shorter dresses and long enough to not have the look of the 'boyfriend' styles. This is my first of two blazers that I've purchased initially, and I'm happy to say I'd definitely recommend to others. I'd love to see what else I can try and potentially love and brag about!!!" —Kaya S.

Get it from Eloquii for $149.95+ (available in sizes 14–28 and in two colors).

31. A rib-knit skirt you can wear at your natural waist or hike up for a shorter silhouette. It's like getting two skirts in one!

A reviewer wearing the skirt in brown

Promising review: "Love this skirt so much, I bought it in four colors. All are true to the photo. The slit is perfect making it easy to walk, but not too high. I wear the slit in the back. On one of the skirts the tag was on the wrong side and the other three it was where the slit was, so I know you can wear it either way. The material is the perfect thickness for all year and is not see-through. These are a great staple to have." —Lauren Winn

Get it from Amazon for $15.29+ (available in sizes XS–XL and in 21 colors).

32. A pair of Levi's pull-on skinny jeans if you're someone who doesn't like leaving the house in loungewear but wants to *feel* like they're wearing loungewear nonetheless.

Make my butt look cute? Check. No nasty zipper to dig into my gut? Check. Perfect length for any season? Check. I can wear these with a cute blouse as a teacher, and still look professional, while still being comfortable. I feel comfortable wearing these basically any time, and I think that if you're lacking a pair of them and thinking about it, you should go get a pair. They're AMAZING." —AlySedai
