Tell us a little about yourself, where your from, grew up, what H.S./College you attended etc.
I was born and raised in Jamaica Queens and lived in Queens throughout my life. I'm mixed with Jamaican Puerto Rican Native New Yorker. My grandmother who I called Mom raised me and also she was a single parent, in our difficult times she managed to support me. When I went to I.S. 59 (junior high school), I decided I wanted to be a well-rounded actor and print model. In Hillcrest High School, I was in every play mostly with a lead role and in all dance shows. All the experiences and dedication to each shows made me realize this is the career path I wanted to stick with. I attended to A.M.DA. ( American Musical Dramatic Academy) and had to support myself in life and my tuitions. My first and final year was the best decision of my life and the tools that the faculties had provided help me succeed in my work.
What inspired you to be an artist/entertainer? Early experiences worth sharing?
My grand Aunt Sylvia took me too many musical planes and my father was my movie partner in crime. Having the inspiration of live actors and film actors brought a wonderful and different inspiration. Plays on Broadway is like magic before your eyes and you must pay attention before you miss it. Films you can watch your favorite part over and over and you'll remember each line and scene. I'll always love the classic movies with Marlon Brando, Clint Montgomery, and Meryl Streep. If I wanted to be the best I had to learn from the best. Although these are in different eras I'm still inspired by the depth of the character building theses actors performed.
Talk about a time where you have faced adversity/conflict and have triumphed.
The most challenging and hardship in my life that I had to Triumph is the Betrayal of family members. Unfortunately, it was a few that were closed. Throughout my life there were conflicts that held me back from getting the jobs and gigs I wanted moves. when your head isn't focused and you'll lose what is most important. The love and support of my grandmothers dad and other family members gave me the courage to try again. Learn to forgive and move forward in a positive humbled way that allowed myself to get the work I desired. I will be forever grateful to those that have supported me.
What do you believe sets you apart from other artists/entertainers?
My work ethic and everything I do sets me apart from other artists. Although I didn't have money for classes or private school for the art I've continued to learn in a unique way. When I was five, my dance lessons started when I would watch Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Destiny's Child, Aaliyah, Etc (naming a few) videos and practice all the major moves that can help me in my auditions. Same goes for the acting but I knew I had to attend a professional class for techniques and character building. When it comes to modeling I build on my confidence in Runway, print and commercials. I'm 5'4 so I had to work harder on looks, walks and building connections in the industry. Everything I've studied or worked hard for I never gave up.
Do you have other interests or hobbies?
I absolutely love cars. I attend to as many Formula One races and events. Go-karting is my weekend activities. Even with a few injuries I still dance in Hip Hop, Salsa, Jazz and Waltz.
Any projects you have out or currently working on?
There's this Urban Chic fashion brand called WearU@ but I'm partnering up to be a brand ambassador. They're sending me to China for a big photo shoot, fitting shoot and commercial to film their journey through the process. This is a new upcoming brand that is based in New York City to influence and encourage a movement that helps to build Hip Hop culture in a positive way. Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself being successful in the film industry. Working in lead role in all genres. Also being a face in the top fashion brand designers in magazine, commercial and Runway. Although I'm petite there is no limitations in my abilities to succeed in the industry.
What advice can you give to aspiring artists/entertainers?
Although we've heard this many times but I feel this is the most helpful and encouraging words. Never give up!
"If a person has no dreams they no longer have any reason to live. Dreaming is necessary, although in the dream reality should be glimpsed. For me this is the principle of life." The words from the greatest Formula 1 driver, Aryton Senna.
