7 Reasons Why BuzzFeed Needs a Latino Based Team

Now that Buzzfeed has a Spanish an Portuguese version, is important to learn that lenguaje isn´t even the tip of what Spanish spoken culture is.

Now that Buzzfeed speaks nuestro idioma, is important to recap what could a latino based team do to create good old fashion contenido de la **ta madre like the audience deserves.

7 - Latin audience is a lot more than spanish words

So you think because you speak Spanish you can write for Latin America? You are wrong. Maybe you know something about Spanish culture, maybe you even born in Bolivia, Nicaragua or Uruguay, but you live in a place (US) that exports their culture at tops. Do you even know what's the best dish right now in Montevideo? What pop culture meme of the 80's is growing big in Viña del Mar? Why the hype about some cash phrase on Lima?

Maybe you just don't care... After all we are just a few hundred millions... nothing to care about.

6- We have our own pop culture

I'm not saying that we avoid yours... come on, Nyan Cat reads the same in Spanish, but we do have some native culture and pop icons to exploit. Even better, take yours and ours into a bowl and mix them a little to make our special Le Internet Mojito (yea, we use "Le" like French for internet chat).

5- We do HAVE news

Just so you know... things happen here too. We do have racial, political, urban breakthroughs, stories and feelings. Si nos cortas sangramos, just like you. But how would you know how to make fresh good stories if you don't have people able to report them or, I don't know, simply see the news happen around them?

Dude, even the god damn Pope... I mean, the Holly Pope is latino.

4- You dont know a SH** about flavors

How could you make foodporn if you eat ceviche with guarnición, purple onions, yucca & Peruvian corn only on special expensive restaurants? How would you experiment with flavors if you have to pay 50 times the cost of something we grow on our backyard? Just between you and me... Chilean sea bass is not a delicatessen in Chile.

3- We have our own style, swag y somos la raja

You could find different expresions to say this in latinamerica, but this is the whole truth and nothing but the truth: We do have writters. Awesome, funny, compelling, sexy & stupid writters in spanish speaking countrys.

You could find awesomeness on twitter accounts, tumblrs and other online media from pendejos of 14 to 99 year old grannys. Why do you need them all to be just in front of your nose?

Just imagine having handsome genious godlike spanish speakers writting from everywhere around the world (like that crazy guy @chehade) giving you the best content, the real close up view of what the world needs to see.

2- Hagamos Business

How would you make brands trust your media if you dont have un cumpita to close deals? I mean, no offense but, you cant possibly think a guy in NY can close a advertisement deal with a great local brand to get some sponsored content. What could your NY sales man know about our timing, events and ways of negociate? You need people in every single country to make Buzzfeed cash worthy in Latinoamerica. Why? Just to have the best people around of course (good guys dont work for dulces).

Is hard to say this (being a dude who works for online media), but your content is getting translated and stolen without any shame en paises latinos. You can find hundreds of sites that just copy and translate your lists making them their own. The most polite ones just say "from buzzfeed" but still, advertisement goes to them.

I like kidnaping content just like the next sick boring guy, but taking cash from something than isnt yours is... you know... wrong. Having a latino based team with their own content, makes it easier to have survailance in case of some other online new kid of media taking your staff. You dont want them making hermoso y reluciente dinero with them.
