My Dad Is A Literal Superhero

This is not a metaphor.

1. He is my Jiminy Cricket.

When I see garbage on the ground, I pick it up because he is the voice in my head saying, “respect your community.” When I have a bad day teaching, I remember the patience and kindness he shows us each and every day, and I go back for some more abuse from 13 year-olds.

2. When Mickey does things, he does them the right way.

If you're going to do it, do it right. If you can't do it right, call Mickey.

3. He loves my mom.

The way that he loves her is so pure and unending. He taught me what it means to love someone.

4. He taught me what to look for in a partner.

Some people look for the opposite of their parents when they find a partner. I clearly did not. *Both of them watching the same Cubs game in different places.

5. He loves my friends.

Need him to spend hours drawing on a chalkboard for your wedding? No problem.

6. He doesn’t give up.

He went back to school for one degree, earned it, and is now getting another one.

7. Mickey’s got systems.

This man will never forget a bottle opener at the beach. In fact? He’s got it tied to the cooler in a really neat way. 00Mick

8. He doesn’t ever get a hangover, apparently.

He will howl at the moon at night, and then get up the next day and run 5 miles like it’s nothing.

Meanwhile, everyone else looks like this...

Why post on the internet if you can't make fun of your siblings?

9. He’s forgiving.

One time we took the keys to the rental car. I’m sure he said his favorite swear, but then called an Uber and met up with us anyway

10. He loves Harry Potter as much as Matt and I do.

Okay, maybe not as much, but he fakes it pretty well for us.

11. He values tradition.

12. He takes care of my baby.

The whole, "dogs aren't allowed on the bed" rule went out the window pretty quick.

And, even though he's a Cubs fan...

(He's gotta have one flaw.)

He's still the best dad in the whole wide world.
