If you're a newbie, try ones with lower heels or straps.

Get used to walking in kitten heels before wearing 5-inch stilettos. Straps will also help your shoes stay on your feet during the day. Never sacrifice comfort for style again.

Try on new shoes toward the end of the night.

Your feet will be more swollen, so it'll ensure the most accurate fit.
Wendy from Wendy's Lookbook suggests this heel-elevation test to see if a shoe is right for you.

1. Stand up straight in the heels. Make sure your knees are straight.

2. Try to lift yourself up out of the heels (1 inch).
If you can, this means the pitch and height are good for you.
If you can't, this means the heel is probably too high for you to handle.

How to walk in high heels:

Heel then toe! Your walk should be as normal as possible; there is no need to distort your legs or knees in order to walk properly.
The higher your heel, the smaller you'll want your stride to be.
Walking in high heels takes practice.

Don't give up!

Tip: If the shoe isn't comfortable when you try it on, it's not going to be comfortable hours later.

Treat yourself to a pedicure, if you're wearing open-toed shoes.

Benefit No. 1: Your feet will feel more comfortable. Who doesn't feel better with their nails clipped, skin exfoliated, and toes freshly painted?
Benefit No. 2: Your feet will look really cute.
Remember to pamper your feet after a long day.

1 cup Epsom salt
10–15 drops peppermint essential oil

Slippery soles? Go to a shoe cobbler and get rubber attached to the bottom.

They will also get more grip as you wear them more. There are other DIY methods, but we recommend using a cobbler if your shoes are more expensive.
New shoes? Wear them at least once before a special event.

Practice walking around so you can get used to them!
Tight shoes? You can use ice to stretch leather shoes that are too tight.
