🚨This guide has been updated as of June 2019. Check out the updated guide here! 🚨
Before you get started, please have a look at our Guidelines! We have a strict 'No Haters' policy, so if you're trolling or being a jerk, your account or post might be removed.
If you are a brand, organization, political/public figure, or if you're posting something self-promotional, BuzzFeed Community is probably not the place for you. BuzzFeed is no longer supporting new posts from Community Brand Publisher accounts, which include any accounts with a political, commercial, or promotional agenda. You can learn more about our new guidelines for brands and Community accounts here.
OK, let's do this.
First things first — once you've signed up for an account, you can make a new post by going to community.buzzfeed.com and clicking on the Create New Post button.
This will load our "CMS" (content management system, or posting interface tool).
We have three different kinds of posts:
This "box" that you see is called a sub buzz, and it is your best friend.
Want to add images (including GIFs!) to your post? Of course you do! You can do that using the "Image" tab.
Just be sure you've included the source where you found the image. Proper attribution is important!
You can find our Image Resources Guide here!
To add a tweet or Instagram image to your post, first find the URL of the tweet by clicking on the timestamp.
Then copy the URL of the tweet.
Paste the URL into a fresh sub buzz box and voilà! The tweet or Instagram image automatically loads. Here's how it will look.
Want to embed a Tumblr post? Just paste the Tumblr URL (permalink) into a fresh sub buzz like you would a tweet or Instagram link! The Tumblr post will automatically load!
If you want to add a YouTube or Vimeo video, just paste the URL of the video into a fresh sub buzz and the video will automatically load — no need to go through the work of getting the embed code!
The video will be ready to play as soon as you paste your video link right into a fresh sub buzz!
Community members can now make quizzes, too! Check out our detailed guide on how to make a quiz here.
Inserting a new item between existing items is a snap. Use the blue "+" button.
Formatting is also really easy.
Want to rearrange the order of your post? Just use the up or down arrow buttons to move them.
You'll need to upload a thumbnail image before you can publish your post. This image must be at least 625x415 pixels! To add an image, simply drag and drop it into the thumbnail box or use the "Upload From Computer" option.
Finally, if you'd like to "suggest" your post for Community editors to check out for promotion, click the suggest button!
Once you are promoted, you will receive Cat Power! All users with Cat Power will show up in the Just Launched feed.
And there you have it! Making a BuzzFeed post is that easy!
