32 Reasons Why Lena Dunham Is Absolutely Brilliant

From pearls of wisdom on Twitter to her refreshing views on body image and feminism, Lena Dunham is, quite frankly, the shit.

This is Lena Dunham – writer, actress, director, producer, and feminist extraordinare.

She's responsible for bringing the TV show Girls to life, and she also plays its main character, Hannah Horvath.

Hannah has a lot of feelings.

    And so does Lena.

But in addition to having all of the feelings, Lena is one of the smartest, wittiest, most badass female creatives of our time – or, dare I say, the voice of our generation.

    1. She speaks the cold, bitter truth.

Lesson: some of the people who give you free chocolate turn out to be homophobes:(

    2. She did this at the Emmys in 2012.

    3. She lives dangerously, but not without regret.

Did the thing I swore I'd never do: got a public massage at an airport kiosk. It hurts not to know yourself anymore.

    4. She has a lot of quality advice on drugs.

Why take quaaludes when there are cheeseburgers?

I'm so sorry re the spoiler - I literally took NyQuil then did it. Do not NyQuil tweet. Or NyQuil text.

I thought in 23 Miley was saying she was high on Percoset and I was like GIRL I GET IT, THEY GAVE ME THAT WHEN I HAD AN INFLAMED COLON

"And, lastly, the moment I realized I'd forgotten to pack my Klonopin."

    5. Her fashion sense is STRONG.

    SO strong.

    SO brave.

    6. And therefore dresses her dog, Lamby, accordingly.

    7. She knows how to be a good neighbour.

If there's a murder on my block the police should come talk to me because I've already suspected everyone.

    8. People like to get VERY UPSET about how good of a feminist Lena is, but she hasn't let that stop her talking about it.

The debate about good and bad feminism makes me want to take a nap for a year

I have a new term for slut-shaming, which has been feeling a little technical. How about we start referring to it as "being fucking rude"?

    9. Plus, she appreciates other magnificent women.

She could blow rails off of my face and I'd still be #TeamNigella

Can't even construct a tweet that will properly express my emotions about @taylorswift13

Ladies: Anne Hathaway is a feminist and she has amazing teeth. Let's save our bad attitudes for the ones who aren't advancing the cause.

    10. She has two lords. One is Beyoncé.

HOLY SHIT BEYONCE you aren't even a woman anymore you are the world and you are the lord

    And the other is Oprah.

Oprah could get me to confess to a murder I hadn't committed. She could get me devote my life to sustainable agriculture. She is #thelord

    11. She also knows a thing or two about eating.

You can have a wonderful fulfilling day just eating other people's leftovers

I can't cook but I can assess the landscape of your plate and curate a bite that will blow your fucking mind

    12. When a reporter told Lena that her character in Girls was "often naked just at random times for no reason" – Lena responded by saying this:

    13. She gives us hope that even if you were lazy as a kid, it's still possible for you to be an international success.

    14. She's survived her greatest fears: "My fears came true: People called me fat and hideous, and I lived. And now I keep living."

    15. She's understood the importance of great music from a very young age.

    16. She totally *gets* female writers: "Girls are trained to say, 'I wrote this, but it's probably really stupid.' Well, no, you wouldn't write a novel if you thought it was really stupid."

    17. She cares a lot about politics.

I go to France for one day and the government shuts down? It's like I have to do everything.

I'm worried I fucked Carlos Danger in college :(

    18. She's worried about global warming.

Daily regression: called my father in a near-tears panic asking "Papa, is this global warming? Papa, I'm so afraid!"

    19. And she lets you learn from her mistakes.

Just called my cab driver baby by accident and now the ride feels weird

    20. She posts photos like this for no apparent reason.

    21. While interviewing Judy Blume for Believer Magazine she told Blume that she once hid her copy of Forever in the toilet.

    22. She helped someone on Twitter sell their "very real and relatable couch."

    23. Even her throwback photos are 100 times more amazing than yours.

    24. She's ridiculously articulate about complicated subjects.

    25. Seriously. SUCH WISDOM.

    26. She hangs out with all the cool girls.

    27. And when THIS whole thing happened.

    She was all like:

Some shit is just too ridiculous to engage. Let's use our energy wisely, 2014.

Way cooler when people do things out of pure blind spite than out of faux altruism

    28. And despite the controversy surrounding her cover, Lena told the BBC: "I'm really happy with the Vogue cover. I have no problem with the fact it wasn't my body. The fact is, it's my face, and an expression I feel like is honest to me."

    29. She made a super cute video about her Vogue cover with Hamish Bowles.

    30. She has a lovely relationship with her parents.

"My mom was def the source on this National Enquirer piece."

    31. You can even relate to how she feels about nap guilt.

I feel as much guilt about napping as some people would about murdering

    32. And although Lena is crazy successful, she's still as down-to-earth as you'd hope she would be.

Lena, never change. WE LOVE YOU.
