11 "Jane The Virgin" Theories That Will Calm You Down After THAT Finale

    Spoilers ahead, obviously! H/T r/JaneTheVirginCW

We really need to talk about that finale, we knew it was going to be explosive but I am shook to my very core.

    The CW

Firstly, let's get the dishevelled man in the room out of the way. Michael is back?! But how? Shouldn't he be dead?! Let's discuss some of the theories shall we.

    The CW

    1. Michael has a twin.

    The CW

This classic telenovela plot twist is quite possible, we've been told that Michael has a brother but we've never been told that he doesn't have a twin, and in the realm of JTV that means it's a possibility. Although, some fans may argue that it's be done already with Anežka. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter after Michael's death Jennie Urman did say that they're "Definitely, definitely bringing Brett back." which hints at the fact that it's not Michael but that the actor is back for twin-playing purposes.

    2. Somebody is wearing an elaborate mask of Michael's face.

    The CW

This theory is pretty simple, who we think is Michael is actually someone in one of Rose's realistic masks. I mean Rose stole a baby so we do know that she can be this evil.

    3. It is the real Michael and he has been working undercover this whole time.

    The CW

Michael may have realised he was getting close to capturing Rose and was told to go undercover to protect Jane and his family. But that wouldn't explain the "He loved Jane until his last breath" thing and the heart glow dying out. Which is why a lot of people combine this theory with the following amnesia theory.

    4. Michael has amnesia.

    The CW

Amnesia is a huge trope in telenovelas that the show is yet to pick up on, however in the previous episode we had a few hints from Rogelio and River Fields that some fans think could be foreshadowing. Reddit user beachbum8947 points out that The Passions Of Santos also ran an amnesia storyline and it is being re-made for American audiences next season, it's not unusal for the writers of JTV to parrel Rogelio's show with thir own. This would explain why Michael never let Jane know he was alive.

Now let's talk about the shooting, all season the writers had us think we'd be asking "who shot JR?" but they flipped it on us and now we need to work out who JR shot.

    The CW

    5. Milos is back from the dead and tried to kill Petra.

    The Cw

You can't really trust that anyone is dead in this show so it makes sense that Milos is the blackmailer and attempted to kill Petra. He used to work at The Marbella so would know the hotel well and as reddit user OctoberJoy pointed out JR's mum was humming his and Petra's song, so he must be the blackmailer.

    6. It was Anežka back from the dead, again.

    The CW

This one isn't that likely as Petra wouldn't be so nonchalant about her twin sister being back from the dead, but then again she's been resurrected so many times that maybe she wouldn't be shocked.

    7. JR shot Chuck Chesser.

    The CW

This would explain why Petra recognised him and JR didn't, he still loved Petra at the end of season three and could be angry she moved on so quickly.

And there are some additional theories about the next season.

    The CW

    8. Xiomara will die.

    The CW

This one hurts to think about but it's a very real possibility that Xo dies in the next season, hence the need to tell her story and everyone else's. But I'm just going to repress this theory and pretend it will never happen.

    9. Jane is the narrator of the show.

    The CW

In the finale episode Jane said "I just had an epiphany about my book. I want to combine it with ideas from my others and turn it into one big multi-generational story". So now we know that Jane The Virgin the TV show is actually less about Jane but her whole family and that it is basically the retelling of her book. Who knows, maybe at the end of the series the voice of the narrator could transform into Jane's.

    10. Or Mateo could be the narrator.

    The CW

By this logic it could also be Mateo in the future telling his family's story to his kids'. The very theme of the show is about the story of the Villanuevas so it makes sense that it will be passed on.

    11. Jane could be pregnant!

    The CW

Ouatgirl has a theory that Jane is pregnant and tbh there is a lot of evidence to back this up. Firstly, the episode starts with Alba telling Mateo Sr that she's pregnant with Xo and of course we know that this show doesn't just add in flashbacks for no reason. Secondly, that steamy sex scene with Jane and Rafael, need I say more? And thirdly, although some nay-sayers may say that Raf is infertile and Jane couldn't possibly be pregnant, this show is based off of immaculate conception and it would make thematic sense to bookend the show with another one.

    12. These may all seem a bit out there but after all this is a telenovela, right?
