This “Friends” News Will Make You Even Sadder For David The Scientist

Poor, poor David the scientist.

As the history books — aka episodes of Friends — show us, Phoebe Buffay and Mike Hannigan fell in love and lived happily ever after.

But as we all know, that's not the whole story. There's also that part where Phoebe almost ends up with David the scientist.

And there's one specific person who definitely hasn't forgotten that blip in the Phoebe and Mike saga: Hank Azaria, the actor who played David.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, the actor revealed that he was pretty bummed when he found out Phoebe was going to marry Mike instead of David.

“It actually did sting a little bit...Whatever part of me is David the science guy who went to Minsk, which admittedly is probably a small part of me, but that part of me wanted to end up with Phoebe. So I was sort of sad when I didn’t.”

And what makes the wound sting even more is that it looks like, before Paul Rudd and his charm joined the show, David was originally supposed to end up with Phoebe.

"The plan always was kind of to bring him back...I think, honestly, what happened was Paul Rudd is so awesome that they sort of found a groove with him and [my character] became more of just the grist for that mill."

Basically, Paul Rudd was just too good-looking to get rid of.

“He’s a handsome devil. He’s actually annoyingly handsome. He shouldn’t really be allowed to be that handsome. He’s like the Tom Brady of comedy.”

So what have we learned from this, Friends fans? There are two things to blame for David's bad luck: Paul Rudd's face and, of course, Minsk.
