26 Crazy “Legends Of The Hidden Temple” Secrets That Will Blow Your Mind

    If you're a '90s kid who grew up watching Nickelodeon, then you're probably a fan of Legends of the Hidden Temple's one and only fearless leader, Kirk Fogg.

    In anticipation of Nickelodeon's Legends of the Hidden Temple TV movie, BuzzFeed spoke with Kirk about everything and anything LOHT...especially about that girl who puked in the Pit of Despair.

    Here's what we learned:

    1. The first episode they ever shot took 18 hours to film.

    2. The moat crossing, which was completed in one to two minutes on the TV show, actually sometimes took 25 to 30 minutes to complete.

    "We could have done just one show on the moat crossing and then cut to the credits and called it a day." —KF

    3. They actually shot five different episodes at the same time, so there was around two hours in between each event.

    "So we'd shoot all the moat, all the steps, all the Temple games, and then finally at the end of the night, when they were properly delirious, then we would send them through the Temple." —KF

    4. Approximately 15% of the contestants cried after being scared by the Temple guard.

    "Come on, you're completely invested in going through that temple…so just think about going through a temple, you're trying to get something together, you don't know where you're going next, and suddenly this costumed man temple guard comes out and scares [you]." —Kirk Fogg

    5. Kirk ran through the Temple a lot.

    "I always made sure before the season that I would run through the Temple and make it through the Temple. Because…if they can make it through the Temple, then I can make it through the Temple." —KF

    6. His best time was obviously under three minutes.

    7. And he always tried to help the contestants.

    "We didn't go through that whole day for them to get stuck doing something. Those rooms were super hard and there [were] a lot of technical things to do in there, so I would have to scream like, 'Turn the wheel to the left! To the left! Put the base on the other way!'" —KF

    8. Kirk most definitely kept his iconic denim shirt.

    "The only prop I kept was my denim shirt, which sits very precariously on my top coat hanger rack by itself in a plastic bag." —KF

    9. And what did he carry around in his tool belt? ChapStick and a granola bar.

    10. Kirk used to be the basketball coach of the son of the actor who played Mr. Krabs on SpongeBob. Obviously, Nickelodeon stars stick together.

    11. Kirk’s favorite team was the Silver Snakes.

    "I'm probably going to take a lot of heat for this, but I do like the Silver Snakes a lot. Very down and dirty, very blue collar." —KF

    12. The contestants totally had pizza for lunch.

    13. Kirk loved the, as some would lovingly say, underwhelming prizes (looking at you, box of Nestlé Nesquik)...and he knows the kids liked them too.

    14. Kirk and Dee Bradley Baker, aka the voice of Olmec, had a lot of fun joking around together on set.

    "Dee is a very humorous man, but don't ever tell him. And he would often come around Olmec...and I would always make him, in front of a live audience, do his great dinosaur impression. And it's hilarious." —KF

    15. Dee used to make snide remarks behind Olmec’s head.

    "We'd be struggling on something and he'd like chuckle or something… [Using Olmec's head], he'd be like, 'Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah!'" —KF

    16. One time Kirk had to let the producers know during the show that Olmec’s lips were falling apart.

    "Olmec's lip was starting to get a terrible, terrible canker sore. It was starting to crack down the side, so we had to stop and patch him up." —KF

    17. One time Kirk got recognized as the host of LOHT during the filming of an Arby’s commercial.

    "I was sitting across the table from the other actor, and all of the sudden it came to him that I was the host of Legends of the Hidden Temple, and his day was wrecked. He was freaked out after that." —KF

    18. Another time he was recognized while jumping in a bouncy house.

    "The best thing was my brother had a birthday party at his house for my nephew…and I showed up and got in the jumpy and started jumping with these 7-year-old kids, and one by one they started to realize that they were jumping in the jumpy [with] the host of Legends of the Hidden Temple." —KF

    19. He once got a letter in the mail asking him to sign a picture of himself so an engaged couple could auction it off at their wedding shower to raise money for their honeymoon.

    20. Kirk started tearing up when one particular girl beat the odds and made it through the Temple.

    "[There was] this one girl who did not seem like she had the capabilities of making it through the Temple. And not only did she make it through the Temple, she made it by herself...and she was crying, and I kinda started crying, and we're all kind of crying because it was really an unexpected win." —KF

    21. But then there was that other girl who got stuck in the Pit of Despair, and then threw up in it.

    "She was crying hysterically, then [they] had to clean her all up, reset the clock…and let her run. I don't think she won." —KF

    22. For everyone who questioned the need for those hilarious mouth guards, Kirk says they were 100% necessary.

    "I always made sure they had their mouth guard out when we had good money shots…but you had to have a mouth piece. [And] you had to have that helmet or else you're going to knock that cranium off." —KF

    23. The show had a medic on set…but the medic was mostly there for Kirk’s back spasms.

    24. The younger contestants were pretty comfortable being matched up with a random stranger, but the 13- and 14-year-old contestants tended to be a little awkward around each other.

    25. Everyone needs to stop hating on the kids who couldn’t finish the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, because Kirk says it was REALLY HARD.

    "Do you know how tired you are by the time you get to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey? You are completely out of gas, you get there to this room, the lighting is little bit funky, and you have to find the three pieces...I mean, the body and the base kind of look the same, so a lot of people try and put the body on first." —KF

    26. And finally, Kirk doesn’t know what the Temple guards said to the kids when they escorted them out of the game, but he has his suspicions.

    The Legends of the Hidden Temple TV movie is set to premiere this fall on Nickelodeon.
