12 Ways To Liven Up A Boring Date

OK, so you're on a date and it's...bad. Now what? Let Captain Morgan help you out...

1. Fake an emergency.

Thinkstock

"What's that? There's a tornado coming this way? And it hasn't been reported by any major media outlets? And there's no immediate meteorological proof of its existence, but you're totally serious? WE GOTTA GET OUT OF HERE!"

If movies have taught us anything, it's that nothing gets the romantic juices going like a possibly life-threatening situation.

2. Pull out a bingo card of date clichés.

Thinkstock

OK, just hear us out on this one... It'll take a blank bingo card, a pen, and a lifetime's worth of inane date-chatter. Here are a few examples to get you going: "Oh, so what do you do for a living?", "That's very interesting..." and "I need to leave now".

3. Start singing your questions instead of speaking them

Nothing breaks the ice like crooning "So, what do you do?" in the style of a heavily auto-tuned rap chorus.

4. Play the "wink" game.

This is a fun game! See how many other people you can wink at in the restaurant before someone has a noticeable reaction. (Spoiler: British people's threshold for silent embarrassment is huuuuuuuuuge.)

5. Tell your date your "life story" based on a popular movie or television show plot.

Thinkstock

"So, I guess, the main thing about me is that I'm actually the son of a wealthy philanthropist who was murdered, along with my mother, in an attempted mugging. Now all I do is stay up all night and fight crime..."

11. Try and narrate the conversations of people at other tables.

Thinkstock

OK, this one is actually good fun. People-watching and trying to guess what people are talking about is something that's enjoyed by absolutely everybody – just like muffins.

Embody the spirit of the Captain and make the best out of any bleak situation. Captain Morgan #livelikethecaptain
