The New York Times recently asked black males aged 10 to 25 to openly and honestly discuss what it's like growing up black in America. Their stories and answers were both heartbreaking and eye-opening.
Malik, 17, talked about how strange it is to read something like Huck Finn in school and have the whole class waiting for your reaction because of your race.
Thirteen-year-old Miles noticed that discrimination and judgment can come from anybody, including close friends.
Multiple guys mentioned how many people seem to be afraid of them in everyday public situations...
...and how many cops have stopped them randomly.
Shaquille, 22, brought to light the feeling these situations create...
...and it can be really upsetting...
...and frustrating, as shown by 10-year-old Maddox.
Finally, the guys had messages for their parents, in case they ever worried.
