CL&E Presents: Top 9 Tips For Writing Exams

Writing your first set of McGill exams? Here are some tips from upper year students.The McGill exam schedule is available here

1. Make sure you have your McGill ID.

Triple Check. Seriously, triple check. Do not leave your house without it. You're going to need it.

2. Dress comfortably and wear layers

The temperature in McGill buildings can be unreliable. Make sure you dress in layers so you can be as comfortable as possible.

3. Writing in the gym? Bring earplugs

The gym is aliveeeee with the sounds of white noise. If machine humming bothers you, make sure to bring earplugs.

4. Bring a water bottle

Hydration is key and some buildings can get pretty dry.

5. Bring extra pens and pencils

Murphy's law most definitely applies to your pencil case. Only bring one pen? You will need to bubble in a scantron with pencil. Bring lots of extra pencils and pens

6. Be kind to your invigilators

Your invigilators are real MVPs. They make the whole exam process run smoothly. Be kind to them, no matter how stressed you are.

7. Be ~~on time~~

The earlier you show up, the smoother your experience will be. You should always arrive for your exam at least 15-20 minutes before your exam start time.

8. Ask Questions

Sometimes, exam questions don't make the most sense. Don't panic. Ask your professor for clarification. They are there to help you.

9. Fill in your name and student ID number immediately

Before you even open your exam, fill in your student number on your scantron, exam booklet, and any other piece of material you may receive. Don't wait until the end of the exam to do so - you might forget or run out of time.
