Here's Everything You Need To Know About Hey Violet

We sat down with Hey Violet to find out everything about the up and coming pop-rock band you should be listening to.

1. The Los Angeles band is made up of Casey, Rena, Nia, Miranda, and Iain.

2. They're signed to Hi or Hey Records which was created by 5 Seconds of Summer, and they've toured with the boys a bunch of times.

3. According to Hey Violet, 5SOS can "get super Australian" around each other.

"When they get to Australia they start talking to each other and start saying things and it sounds like a different language," Hey Violet told BuzzFeed.

4. They also have a lot of respect for the 5SOS boys, who are like brothers to them.

"They're incredible, we're really close to them which is really nice. They're like brothers to us, they treat us so well on tour and they're really respectful guys who are really, really smart about music."

5. And despite how close they are, they still think 5SOS' love of Vegemite is kinda weird.

"They talk about Vegemite all the time, they have sandwiches and put nothing on it except Vegemite and butter... maybe if they made some for us we would understand, but we're just scared."

6. Hey Violet started out as an all-girl band called Cherri Bomb, who once opened for the Foo Fighters and The Smashing Pumpkins.

"When we opened for Foo Fighters they were so down to earth, Dave Grohl literally had lunch with us and sat down with us, he was so cool."

7. Although they now have male bandmates, Hey Violet still want to see more women entering the music industry.

"One of the main reasons we got into this is because we wanted to inspire everyone, girls and boys... we just want it to be normal, like girls are equal with boys in this industry."

8. And their advice for any young women who want to break into the music industry is to stay dedicated.

"If you want to do it then stick to it because it's hard, it's difficult to find people who have the same vision as you and it's hard to find people on the same page."

9. While on tour, the band couldn't live without their headphones, video games, and notebooks.

10. They're inspired by the likes of The 1975, Melanie Martinez, Arctic Monkeys, and Katy Perry.

"Everyone brings in a piece of what they listen to and it influences the way we make music."

11. And they look up to people like Phil Collins, Dave Grohl, Prince, David Bowie, and Gwen Stefani.

12. If they could tour with any band, they'd choose The 1975.

"The Weeknd would also be interesting, it would be a different vibe. It would be cool to open for a band with a slightly different genre because then you can share fan bases and open up people to different types of genres."

13. Nia and Rena are sisters, but they haven't driven each other crazy on the road... yet.

"It's not that bad, we share a hotel room, and we fight but we get over it," said Nia. "I feel like we used to fight more, sometimes we butt heads but I feel like that's the same with all of us in the band."

14. The best piece of advice they've ever received is to not have a plan B.

"If you think that you need a plan B then you're already setting yourself up to fail. Because you think, 'well, I might fail at my dream but I have this to fall back on,' but if this is all you have then you put everything into it."

15. Their fans are called Ultra Violets.

"I think a fan came up with that name. We can’t remember who it was but we thought it was super cute."

16. They're finding that it can be difficult to avoid negativity on social media.

"We don't really like when our fans hate on someone who is hating us and start attacking someone. It's like YouTube comment fights, no one is going to win. We try and stay relatively positive with all social media stuff because that's what we want back, good vibes and positivity."

17. There's also a lot of pressure involved in trying to please everyone.

"We try our best to meet as many fans as we can. You want to be able to connect with these people and make them feel special, but there just isn't always enough time."

18. If they weren't musicians, they'd be pursuing a range of different careers.

Miranda said she would like to write poetry or get into theatre, while Casey said he'd maybe be a pilot. Iain would be a graphic designer, while Rena would open a bakery, and Nia, who loves to write, would want to write short stories.

19. Hey Violet's ultimate wish for 2017 would be to headline Madison Square Garden.
