Why You're Hearing About Newt Gingrich In New York

Readers from California to Texas to New York say they're hearing advertising for Newt Gingrich. Here's the deal.

Michele Bachmann complained earlier this month that the SuperPAC supporting Newt Gingrich, Winning Our Future, was airing radio ads using an old audio clip of her praising Newt Gingrich in a way that made it appear that she had endorsed him. (She hasn't.)

But instead of taking the ad off the air, Gingrich's allies have doubled down: Twitter correspondents reported hearing the spot from New York City to California to Waco, Texas.

We checked in with a source tracking the media buys, who explained that the group has plunked down a $500,000 national radio buy, mostly on talk radio, but also on professional football games.

"It's actually not a bad move," our source emails. "Good way to play in states ahead and be up at times on radio in South Carolina also."
