    • Infant mortality is one of the most heartbreaking problems in the developing world. With nearly 77 babies dying before age 1 per 1,000 births, Uganda has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world. Compare that to a rate of 6.3 in the U.S. or 4.8 in the UK. In May of this year, BMB New York will be releasing the Information Blanket in Uganda in hopes that literally covering babies in information will save lives.

    • There are basic health instructions, ranging from breastfeeding instructions, (“Breast-feed 8-12 times a day”) to friendly reminders (“Don't forget to schedule your doctor appointment”) to advice on how to spot a sick child (“Warning signs: unconsciousness, convulsions, fever...”) all in the mothers' native language. For those who may not be able to read, the instructions are accompanied by simple graphics. Each blanket is comes in a gender-neutral sage and is American-made out of double-knit North Carolina cotton. BMB plans to turn the Information Blanket into a full-blown brand and wants to distribute blankets in other needy parts of the world - but it starts in Uganda. A donation of $25 will provide one blanket for one Ugandan woman and a donation of $60 will get one in pink or blue for you.
