Which Eurovision 2016 Finals Performance Are You Based On Your Zodiac Sign?

Choose your Zodiac Sign:

Aries is “What’s the Pressure?” – Laura Tesoro from Belgium. Aries are enthusiastic, dynamic, and energetic like Laura’s Eurovision 2016 performance. She was one of the few performers this year to do a full dance routine while singing. Although Belgium only got 10th in the competition, it was one of the highest-energy performances of the night which fits Aries’ energetic and passionate attitude.

Taurus is “Made of Stars” – Hovi Star from Israel. Tauruses are known as being patient, warmhearted, persistent, but also “safe” and that’s how Hovi’s performance felt. Israel chose a ballad sung by a young man in English, which is a standard Eurovision style. While it was pretty, it seemed tame and orderly like a Taurus. Hovi stood mostly in place and sung passionately, but the staging was safe and, ironically, the overall “star” power of the performance fell a little flat. Taurus’ are less concerned with being flashy than with being consistently good, which is how this performance was perceived.

Israel!

Gemini is "You're Not Alone" - Joe and Jake. Gemini is the sign of twins, and Joe and Jake from the UK are the closest equivalent to twins that Eurovision had performing this year. Geminis are also known for youthful energy and this performance, if nothing else, had that. Although it did not do very well in the competition (getting 24th), this may be because of another Gemini trait the performance had – adaptability. This song coming from the same country as One Direction may have sounded so adaptable that it fell flat and became generic.

Cancer is “Heartbeats” – Justs from Latvia. Cancers are known for being both emotional and protective at the same time, and that’s how Justs performance came across. His singing conveyed a lot of sensual emotion but the overall song and staging seemed safe and defensive. There was a disconnect between the emotional side of the song and the actual instrumentation and staging, which is similar to the war between Cancer’s emotional side and their protective side. If the defenses went down, this song may have done better than 14th place.

Latvia!

Leo is "You are The Only One" - Sergey Lazarev from Russia. Leos are leaders, and Russia's entry was thought to be the leader of the pack going into the finals of this competition. Like a Leo, the staging of this song is very inventive and creative which caused it to stand out in the crowd. Sergey exhibited excitement and energy and although didn't win overall, obtained the most televotes to prove its star power.

Virgos are “No Degree of Separation” – Francesca Michielin from Italy. Italy’s entry this year seemed to be a strategic choice by combining Italian and English along with a subtle political message about togetherness. Virgos are known for intelligence and practicality and those virtues are apparent in this song and performance. However, the song was too modest, another Virgo trait, to rival more overt political messages like the one from Ukraine. The song was well executed but may have lacked the raw emotion of songs that were more successful this year.

Italy!

Libras are “If I Were Sorry” – Frans from Sweden. Libras are known for being easy-going and charming, which is what Sweden’s “Justin Bieber” exudes in this performance. The song has a laid-back feel and has romantic undertones (even if the song is about love lost). It’s Frans’ charm that seemed to carry this performance rather than any sort of over-the-top staging. 5th place isn’t bad for a 17-year-old singing a relaxed pop song.

Scorpio is “Midnight Gold” - Nika Kocharov and Young Georgian Lolitaz from Georgia. Scorpios are forceful, exciting, and a bit compulsive which is the impression that Georgia’s performance from this year gave. The song itself is very powerful with its full rock band instrumentation and vocal distortion. It becomes compulsive and disorienting when the videography effects were put into play during the live performances. This song managed to get 104 points and 20th place, potentially from its exciting and forceful nature, traits Scorpios also possess.

Saggitarus’ are “If Love was a Crime” – Poli Genova from Bulgaria. Saggitarius’ are known for being optimistic and jovial, and the catchy rhythms and (literally) glowing costume from this performance exude joviality. Sags are also known, however, for being tactless and although the performance was enjoyable, the choreography seemed a little haphazard. Even so, Poli did a good job in looking like she was having fun the whole time and managed to get fourth place because of this optimistic spirit in her performance and in the lyrics.

Bulgaria!

Capricorns are “Sound of Silence” – Dami Im from Australia. Capricorns are ambitious and disciplined, and Australia seems ambitious simply for entering such a strong contender into a contest where they are “outsiders”. The discipline is shown through Dami’s performance, which was flawless and gained a lot of respect from the juries. From the jury votes, Australia would have won, but ended up getting 2nd overall. Their ambition and perfectionism paid off through this powerful performance.

Aquarius is “Slow Down” – Douwe Bob from The Netherlands. Aquarians are known for being original and independent. If “Slow Down” was heard in any other context, it would not sound very original, but entering a folk/country song into the modern Eurovision contest is a unique event. Aquarius’ are also friendly and honest, which is what this performance exhibits. The instrumentation yields itself to an “honest” sound that got this more original song 11th place. However, it felt detached (like how most people view Aquarius) from the spirit of Eurovision which prevented it from getting a higher placement.

The Netherlands!

Pisces are “1944” – Jamala from Ukraine. You’re the winner! Pisces are known for being passionate and empathetic and it was those emotions from Jamala that allowed this song to be the Eurovision winner of 2016. Pisces are also known as “unworldly” and the folk elements of this song allow it to feel timeless and slightly detached from the modern world. It is the passion and empathy that allow it to strike a chord in the listeners while still sounding “out there” in terms of the modern Eurovision pop standards.
