Why "Good Girls Revolt” Needs To Continue

Today Amazon cancelled the series after one season, but is shopping the series elsewhere.

Amazon is known for it's Award-winning shows that tell a passionate story for audiences to enjoy. When Good Girls Revolt premiered on the streaming service on October 28th, 2016 it was received at high praises for it's portrayal of a group of women in 1969 banning together for equal rights at a newspaper. It was the feminist show women needed and it still is. From my point of view it was nice watching a show that I could fully relate to because sadly women still go through what these characters go through. Less pay, sexist comments from men, body shaming and worrying about how others perceive us. So it was great to see a group of talented educated women create a movement to change this.

The show is based on the book The Good Girls Revolt written by Lynn Povich and based on real events. Created by Dana Calvo, a former journalist who always wanted to create a journalism show and was excited to get the rights to this story. Calvo wanted to create strong female characters and have them encounter situations that make them rethink where there life is going. The three female leads are Patti (Genevieve Angelson), Cindy (Erin Darke) and Jane (Anna Camp). All three women have different personalities but together their strength leads the movement for every woman. Normally women characters are written as being mean and gossipy to one another and sometimes this behavior translates to society as being true. But real women stand together and support one another and Good Girls Revolt portrayed this real life view of women beautifully. The characters in this show knew what they were doing could end with them loosing their jobs but they also knew this would be an important moment for women and change the way society sees us. We owe a lot of what us women have today to these types of women. And as a woman in my young twenties I like having shows that inspire me.

With women's issues being a big part of politics right now this show was a great way for women of today to see how little things have changed but also that women are much strong then people think. And this view is not only important for women but for society as a whole and sometimes it takes a television show to inform people about how important these issues really are. And with not many strong female driven shows on television, Good Girls Revolt is a great one for people to watch and talk about. My mom and I spent Thanksgiving talking about this show and it's importance to the history and continued growth of women's rights. I mean women had no right to get a credit card in their name while married until 1974! That means my grandmother was 40 when women could get credit cards and I was half her age when I got my first credit card. Crazy! It's great that things like that have changed but we still have plenty of issue we need to change. We can learn so much about ourselves and how we can impact society from Good Girls Revolt and that is why the show needs to continue. I would love for in the future my daughter to find this show and be surprised that women were treated this way because for her, times would have drastically changed.

Now lets post support on social media to help Good Girls Revolt get picked up! #ContinueGGR
