Robert Pattinson Told A Story About Almost Being Fired From "Twilight"
Believe it or not, Edward could've been even more brooding.
I think everyone can agree that it's hard to imagine anyone other than Robert Pattinson playing the glittery vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight films.
Well, according to Pattinson, we might've had a totally different actor portraying Edward. He was actually almost fired from the first film for not...wait for it...NOT SMILING ENOUGH!
In an interview with Howard Stern, Pattinson said he basically imagined the character as 105-year-old emo vampire who cries along to Morrissey songs all day.*
According to Pattinson, he thought that the character of Edward should be very serious and intense, saying:
If you’re going into a relationship with someone, the way to make it really intense is if you can barely talk to each other, you can barely touch each other, it’s incredibly serious all the time. That’s what teenage relationships are. But everyone kind of wanted it to be, like, "No, they should just be, like, happy and having fun. That’s what people want."
He went onto say that things got so bad that his agents came to the set to warn him:
I thought I was pretty safe. But, they flew up and they're like, "You have to do the opposite of what you’re doing now or you’re going to get fired today."...I came back after lunch and was like "Hi!!!"
