10 Ways To Put Your Compassion Into Action

In 2014, Week of Compassion was celebrated from February 16th-23rd. But that doesn't mean that you can't put your Compassion into Action by partnering with us in other ways! WoC is committed to working around the world, around the year. Here are some great things you can do anytime:

Posted on

1. Join the Disciples Coffee Project

We partner with Equal Exchange, one of North America's oldest Fair Trade Companies. Not only does your purchase support smallholder coffee, cacao, and tea farmers, but $.15 of every pound you purchase through the project supports Week of Compassion Food Security projects. Your purchase counts twice!

2. Organize a Mission Work Trip

Whether you're responding to domestic disaster or getting to know the work of a global partner, mission work trips are a great way to get involved in hands-on work with Week of Compassion partners. You can also apply for a grant to support your trip!

3. Start a Foods Resource Bank Growing Project

Our Partner Foods Resource Bank helps connect Farmers and Churches from the United States with smallholder farmers overseas in order to help communities become more food secure. Explore how you might get involved!

4. Start a Named Endowed Fund

A named fund is a great way to let your friends and family know how they can support Week of Compassion. You can name a fund in honor of someone special to you, too. Support of the endowment complements annual giving and supports Week of Compassion's work into perpetuity!

5. Put together kits to help others

IMA World Health offers opportunities to put together Medicine boxes and Safe Motherhood kits. CWS collects cleanup buckets, school kits, and hygiene kits for communities affected by disasters. These kits make great projects for small groups or whole faith communities!

6. Join the Circle of Compassion

Disciples congregations are invited to join the “Circle of Compassion,”a new initiative designed to strengthen the work and witness of Week of Compassion for generations to come.

The goal is to enlist 100 Disciples congregations to establish a named fund of at least $10,000 in the Week of Compassion Endowment Fund at the Christian Church Foundation.

Read all about how to make this happen here.

7. Host a creative fundraiser

Old fashioned pie auctions and ice cream suppers, silent auctions featuring local businesses and members' talents, or maybe even hosting a "Wine to Share, Water for all" event! These efforts can make a difference year round and can be a lot of fun, too!

8. Support the Women's Empowerment Fund

When we help to educate a girl, we help her whole family.

To improve the life of one woman is to change the life of an entire community.

This has been proven time and time again.

See how you can support this important fund and impact the lives of women, girls, and their entire communities

9. Buy someone special a gift that supports our work.

The unique candles from Prosperity Candle and the Week of Compassion clerical stoles from Womenspirit/Abiding Spirit make terrific gifts. They also support the Women's Empowerment Fund

10. Share the Love

Week of Compassion stands ready to respond to disasters and other needs year-round. If you'd like to put your Compassion into Action at any time, all you have to do is follow this link.
