A 34-Year-Old Man Has Been Charged With Torture And The Murder Of A Queensland Teenager

Zlatko Sikorsky has been charged with murdering 16-year-old Larissa Beilby.

The man accused of murdering Queensland teenager Larissa Beilby has had 18 charges, including torture, made against him by police following a 27-hour standoff this past weekend.

Police initially charged 34-year-old Zlatko Sikorsky with murder and misconduct with a corpse, but on Monday charged him with 16 other offenses, including possessing weapons, dangerous drugs, torture, and obstructing a police officer.

Beilby's family were notified the teenager had been formally identified by police on Saturday.

In a briefing to media on Sunday, detective inspector Damien Hansen confirmed Sikorsky was in a relationship with 16-year-old Beilby. Beilby was last seen alive at a halfway house in Sandgate, Brisbane, on June 15.

"Our thoughts and condolences go out to Larissa's family and friends," said superintendent Mark White.

Sikorsky's lawyer, Brendan Ryan, told ABC News his client "did not commit this murder" and that "it isn't a murder."

"Unfortunately the way it looks at the moment is this young girl disappeared from her relations and she has unfortunately passed away, but Mr. Sikorsky certainly did nothing to cause her death."

Ryan said he "absolutely believed" Sikorsky was innocent having "received instructions" consistent with innocence.

Queensland Police first began searching for Sikorsky on Thursday, after a body was found in a barrel in the back of a black ute in Stapylton on Wednesday.

On Friday, Sikorsky was tracked to an Alexandra Headland apartment complex – but he did not surrender until late Saturday evening.

Sikorsky is now being kept at a watch house and will face the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

A 40-year-old Palmwoods woman and a 38-year-old Alexandra Headlands man have also been charged, both with one count of accessory after the fact to murder. They will also appear in Maroochydore Magistrates court on Monday.

An online fundraiser to pay for Beilby's funeral expenses has raised over $12,000 since Sunday.
