People Are Painting Their Nails In Solidarity With Bruce Jenner

The #PaintYourNailsForBruce hashtag has taken over Twitter and Instagram as a way to support the Olympic gold medalist turned reality star.

#PaintYourNailsForBruce is a social media movement started by Sydney radio station KIIS 1065 that aims to support reality star Bruce Jenner.

The movement references Jenner's own words in his* recent interview with Diane Sawyer, wherein he noted how badly he wanted to "be able to have my nail polish on long enough that it actually chips off".

*(Since Jenner has not expressed a preference for female pronouns and Jenner’s publicist declined to comment on the question, this story uses male pronouns.)

Since the interview, Australian men and women have been tweeting and instagramming their messages of support for Jenner.

KIIS 106.5 told BuzzFeed News that both hosts of The Kyle & Jackie O show were affected by interview.

"After watching Bruce's interview, Kyle and I (co-host Jackie O) and all the KIIS team found it incredibly moving and we realised that this was a very real struggle that many face and there was a chance to inspire and support. It was Kyle who actually came up with the idea for #PaintYourNailsForBruce. He just genuinely feels that everyone has the right to be who they are and felt for Bruce".

Kyle Sandilands agreed “there’s enough going on in the world without everyone being able to be who they truly are. It can take courage and we’re really impressed by Bruce’s”.
