Needles Have Been Found In Strawberries In New Zealand

    Australia's strawberry crisis goes international.

Australia's strawberry crisis has spread across the Tasman, with needles being found in Australian strawberries stocked in a New Zealand supermarket.

The needles were found inside a sample of berries from Choice strawberries, a brand sourced out of Western Australia, at a Countdown supermarket in Auckland.

Countdown Supermarkets released a statement on Sunday evening confirming contaminated strawberries had been found and that it would be withdrawing the brand from sale. Choice strawberries were sold across New Zealand last week.

"There have been no reports of any illness or injury in New Zealand," said the statement.

"The strawberries affected by this withdrawal have not previously had any issues of this nature reported and had not been withdrawn from sale in Australia."

Choice berries were not included in the Australia strawberry crisis last week and the brand was not one of the six recalled by producers.

New Zealand authorities are investigating the strawberry contamination and Australian authorities have been notified.
