People Are Freaking Out Over This Video Of A Spider Eating A Mouse

An Australian man from Mackay, Queensland, has captured some absolutely crazy footage of a huge huntsman spider absolutely destroying a mouse.

Jason Womal wrote on Facebook that he was leaving for work early in the morning when his neighbour coaxed him into his house to show him the huge huntsman spider trying to finish off a mouse.

Phil Patterson, a keeper at Taronga Zoo in Sydney, told BuzzFeed News the spider was most definitely a huntsman, and shed some light on the gruesome way the eight-legged creature was finishing off the mouse.

Patterson said that there are 94 huntsman species in Australia, all of varying sizes, and that their large bodies and long, spindly legs, help them chase down their prey.

"A spider of that size will take larger prey," he said. "They'll take big crickets, geckos ... so while that spider has taken a small mouse, anything bigger than that mouse is too big."

"They will target those bigger-body preys because of the nutrients they give them, so it can sustain them for a long time.

"Then they'll inject the venom and slowly, as the venom takes effect, it will do what every single spider species does, and that's liquify the inside of the prey and then basically slurp the insides of the animal ... physically drink it.

"They use the venom to basically liquify the internal organs."

So yeah, the spider is pretty much making itself a mouse smoothie.

Womal's video has been viewed more than 5 million times, and tens of thousands of people have shared it on Facebook. Thousands of people have commented with a big, fat "nope!"
