Since its Broadway, New York, premiere in 2011, The Book of Mormon - a religious satire from the men behind South Park - has played in other US cities and on London's West End. Many of the scheduled performances at Melbourne's Princess Theatre have already sold out.

On January 5 The Book of Mormon organisers announced that all the tickets for a January 17 preview performance would be sold for $20. The tickets, which went on sale at the Princess Theatre on Monday morning, could only be purchased physically – not online – prompting hundreds of Aussies to swarm Melbourne's CBD.

Wondering why people were queued around the block on Spring Street? Scott and Colin Marriott were first in line for…

Father and son Scott and Colin Marriott lined up for 18 hours, camping overnight, to make sure they were first in line. “I’ve already bought full-price tickets but this was such a good chance to see it again, I had to do it,” Colin Marriott told The Herald Sun.

Some punters weren't as committed as the Marriotts, and didn't show until early morning. Boy, did that mean a lot of sunburned Aussies in the Melbourne's CBD.

Just after 9am on Monday morning organisers were forced to close the line – an hour before the tickets even went on sale.
