1. April 1, a day everyone fears. Not because it signifies the turning of another month bringing us closer to death — rather, because of a tradition that has occurred for decades: April Fools.
2. From around 6am, news sites across the country, as well as #brands, all started pushing out their own April Fools jokes. Some, were interesting...
3. Some offered new takes on classic dishes.
4. And some attempted to re-write the way awards are given out.
5. Others were downright nonsensical.
6. Politicians, as they are wont to do, also got involved. How hilarious. Sam Dastyari, in his continued attempt to be Labor's "fun vote for the millennials", wrote a nice little press release about kayaks. We don't know why.
7. Live Below The Line tried their best to April Fool the country while making a point. Good on them.
8. There were also some that were just... strange.
9. And plenty of things that...
10. Just didn't really make sense.
11. The Star Observer appointed Australian Christian Lobby leader Lyle Shelton as guest editor for the day. No word yet on whether or not Shelton took advantage of this and held them to their word.
12. And Rooty Hill RSL got involved. A lot. They even promised that James Packer was planning his wedding with Mariah Carey at the RSL. They actually said this. So why isn't that happening? Because they lied. For a joke.
13. Later in the day, they even went against their "prank". At least they admitted to their lie. The first step is admitting you have a problem.
14. The ABC got in on the action, using our taxpayer money to spread false stories that Tasmania was actually legally a part of France. This isn't true. But it's nice to see where the funding goes.
15. Some dude from some soccer team also "changed" his last name to that of the team's sponsor. If this was done on any other day in Australian sport, it might have been believable.
16. Virgin Australia did what they usually do, coming up with a ridiculous and obvious joke that would actually be pretty cool if it were real.
17. This was also a good idea, and something that most of Australia would probably tune in to. Heck, we all watched Cats That Make You Laugh Out Loud.
18. This news organisation thought it would be funny if women played AFL with men. Hilarious. Can you imagine?
19. A country paper tried to "fool" the public as well, in what can probably be dubbed the most country effort at April Fools ever, with a prank that literally involved a tree and a memorial clock.
20. Concrete Playground was like, hey, wouldn't it be funny if Uber delivered babies?
21. And the Republic of Nauru took to Twitter to let everyone know they'd be putting in a bid for the 2024 Olympics. There were no notes as to how the island nation planned to build appropriate facilities, what with all the detention centres and everything.
22. After a predictable backlash, they even replied with this fantastic "imma let you finish" one-two punch which may have accidentally immortalised the phrase "to the humourless".
