19 Male Characters Who Are Definitely Gryffindors

We'll take just those with brave deeds to their name.

Posted on

1. Logan Echolls — Veronica Mars

Warner Bros. Television

Logan is like the quintessential Gryffindor. He's bold, brave, stubborn, and if you hurt somebody he loves, watch out. Logan is going to have his revenge. He does have Slytherin cleverness, but his nerve is so Gryffindor, it's hard to place him anywhere else.

2. Charles Gunn — Angel

Warner Bros. Television

Gunn is noble and he's proud of it. He has a good, strong, and moral heart. When he accidentally kills someone, he goes into a hell dimension to repent for what he's done. That's a bit of a stubborn — yet totally courageous — thing to do. It's Gunn. It's Gryffindor.

3. Justin Suarez — Ugly Betty

Justin is strong, even when it seems like he should give up. He knows exactly who he is, and he's not going to apologize for it. He's incredibly confident and owns himself in every respect. Even when the mean jocks made him homecoming queen, he was able to turn the joke on its head because he's that confident... and a little boastful. All these together make him a good Gryffindor.

4. Dallas Winston — The Outsiders

American Zoetrope

Dally is a reckless Gryffindor. He pushes everyone's limits, including his own, and he has a knack for getting into trouble. This guy would have had detention in the Forbidden Forest every freaking week. Gryffindor would be scared of him, but they'd also respect him.

5. Mr. Mertle — The Sandlot

20th Century Fox

Admittedly, we don't know much about Mr. Mertle. But he does have that big, commanding presence common among Gryffindors. Maybe it's just James Earl Jones' famous voice. But come on. He's probably gotten into some mischief for the greater good. You can just tell.

6. Captain Jack Harkness — Torchwood

He's basically an action hero (OK, so he is an action hero.), and that's exactly what every Gryffindor wants to be. Captain Jack can swashbuckle it one hour and then be as cool as a double agent the next. His chivalry and charisma make him a definite Gryffindor.

7. Romeo Montague — Romeo + Juliet

20th Century Fox

You might not like him, but Romeo is totally a Gryffindor. He's active in everything he does. Even when he's pensive, he's pensive about taking action. When it comes to defending the people he loves, he does it to an extreme, bold extent. Sure, he's dramatic, but that's what makes a Gryffindor a Gryffindor.

8. Russell — Up

Russell might seem like a Hufflepuff because he's sweet and he never gives up. But his thirst for adventure and discovery make him more of a Gryffindor. Plus, given the choice between the two (and we all know that's possible), Russell would definitely be persuaded into Gryffindor. They'd be happy to have him, too.

9. Harrison Wright — Scandal

Other than Olivia Pope herself, Harrison is the most dedicated to being a gladiator in a suit. For him, it's not only inherently good; he likes the glory too. He enjoys feeling like he's winning, like any trailblazer. The Sorting Hat wouldn't even have to touch his head to know he's Gryffindor.

10. Javier Esposito — Castle

Esposito is definitely brave and chivalrous, but he also falls into the key flaws of a Gryffindor. He jumps into things without thinking. He's impulsive. But these flaws often serve him well in the end, making him a gallant hero and true Gryffindor.

11. Xander Harris — Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Warner Bros. Television

While possessing the genuine sweetness and loyalty of a Hufflepuff, glory is way more important to Xander. He has a black and white idea of what makes a hero a hero, similar to that of Harry Potter himself. Besides that, Xander is just extremely brave — arguably (due to his lack of supernatural abilities) the bravest character of the series. He's like a Ron Weasley/Neville Longbottom hybrid, making him such a Gryffindor.

12. Patrick — The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Summit Entertainment

Patrick has been compared to Sirius Black, and it's a pretty apt likeness. He's confident (often to the point of being cocky, like any proud Gryffindor), he's not afraid to be himself even when it's hard, and he's got the bold, daring charisma that an excitable Gryffindor needs.

13. Pacey Witter — Dawson's Creek

Warner Bros. Television

Pacey is the bravest person in all of Capeside. He'll defend just about anyone in the name of loyalty and chivalry, even if he doesn't look before he leaps. If you need any more proof that Pacey is a Gryffindor, watch the episode where the evil English teacher pulls Jack McPhee out of the closet. Pacey goes all defensive Gryffindor on the guy.

14. Glenn Rhee — The Walking Dead

Glenn is a straight-up brave guy, and he's proud to be so. He takes risks willingly, which is a Gryffindor requirement. His love for Maggie Greene is all-encompassing, passionate, Gryffindor love. He'd be a good fit in Harry Potter's own house.

15. Max Carrigan — Across the Universe

Revolution Studios

Outgoing and filled with a sense of adventure, Max is a total Gryffindor. He is always true to himself, whether that's dropping out of Princeton to follow his adventure or facing the draft. Max has the kind of reckless, self-assured personality that screams Gryffindor.

16. Ian Gallagher — Shameless

Ian has a big heart, and he's a little reckless. OK, so he's a lot reckless. He doesn't think things through and finds himself in quite a bit of trouble, like when he stole a helicopter. But he mostly has the best of intentions and wants to crusade for the good, like pretty much any Gryffindor ever.

17. Bernardo -- West Side Story

Beta Productions

Lots of characters in this movie could be in Gryffindor, but none of them more than Bernardo. He's an orderly moral hero, staying true to himself, his family, and his nation in everything he does. Sometimes, his actions are a little dubious, but he always thinks he's doing the best thing. He'd be that really quiet Gryffindor everyone fears but secretly wants to befriend.

18. Coach — New Girl

Coach has a mouth on him. It's a Gryffindor sass mouth. He's also athletic, and Gryffindor is the House that takes Quidditch the most seriously. Usually, Coach is pretty brave, and he can be a gentleman when he wants to be. He'd probably be captain of the Quidditch team all seven of his years at Hogwarts. That's right. All seven.

19. Luke Danes — Gilmore Girls

Warner Bros. Television

Another quiet Gryffindor but a Gryffindor nonetheless. Luke has that flash in the pan kind of temper that Gryffindors are known for, and he's got quite the talent for it. He's also a damn good friend when he wants to be. He's stubborn, but he has a good heart when he wants to show it. There's just something so Gryffindor about Luke.
