Liam Cunningham is an Irish actor who plays Ser Davos Seaworth, the Onion Knight, in HBO's Game of Thrones.
His unlikely friendship with the young princess Shireen Baratheon is one of the few heartwarming storylines in a show that is, for the most part, dark and full of terrors.
If he looks familiar, it's probably because he played the beloved father of another princess, Sara Crewe, in 1995's A Little Princess.
Though "A Little Princess" is considered a children's movie, there are some genuinely heart-wrenching moments.
Most heart-wrenching of all is the movie's climax, when poor orphaned Sara realizes that her "dead" father is actually alive and suffering from war-related amnesia in the house next door.
He doesn't remember her...until he does! They embrace in the rain. Sara is no longer an orphan. Not a dry eye in the house.
Flash forward to 2015's Game of Thrones finale, and a much sadder ending for Liam's Cunningham's princess.
Magic in A Little Princess is bright and beautiful.
But in Game of Thrones, it's evil.
And Ser Davos' reaction to Shireen's death is one of the most heartbreaking moments in the series finale.
RIP, Shireen. You'll always be our little princess.
