29 Pokémon Caught During Pitchfork Music Festival

Booze! Merriment! Thousands of Drowzees! Beach House playing gently in the background!

    1. Drowzee

    Bob Marshall

My first Drowzee was spotted as I was awaiting my cab to the festival grounds. I didn't know it then, but this Drowzee was portentious of things to come.

    2. Gastly

    Bob Marshall

Immediately upon entering the festival grounds, I came face to face with this Gastly. As if you needed your porta-potty experience to be even more terrifying.

    3. Drowzee

    Bob Marshall

Dancing to Car Seat Headrest. He seemed a little drunk, considering how early we were in the festival.

    4. Zubat

    Bob Marshall

Rocking out to Chicago's Twin Peaks. I accidentally transferred him right after catching.

    5. Drowzee

    Bob Marshall

    Crowdsurfing at Carly Rae Jepson.

    6. Gastly

    Bob Marshall

True to character, Gastly nefariously photobombed Carly Rae Jepson backstage. This is why we can't have nice things.

    7. Hypno

    Bob Marshall

This was the first-ever Hypno I've spotted in the wild. He appeared during an incredibly hypnotic set from Shamir.

    8. Bellsprout

    Bob Marshall

    Also spotted at Shamir.

    9. Poliwag

    Bob Marshall

Singing along to Beach House and creeping out people in the porta-potty line to close out Friday night.

    10. Shellder

    Bob Marshall

Spotted on the sidewalk outside of Beauty Bar during the "Bump and Grindfork" party, featuring music from The Hood Internet. I think he was waiting for his Uber. He looked pretty hammered.

    11. Machop

    Bob Marshall

Flexin' on my buddy Mark's arm while he tried to take over a gym at Chicago's Twisted Spoke.

    12. Drowzee

    Bob Marshall

In the crowd during a set from hip-hop pioneers Digable Planets.

    13. Poliwag

    Bob Marshall

Getting a spot before Savages took the stage.

    14. Drowzee

    Bob Marshall

Drowzee was looking the wrong way when Savages lead singer Jehnny Beth jumped into the crowd. (Savages win the Loudest Band award for the weekend.)

    15. Zubat

    Bob Marshall

Flapping around to the cool R&B stylings of BJ The Chicago Kid.

    16. Tauros

    Bob Marshall

Waiting in the porta-potty line before Brian Wilson. A good omen for some rare Pokémon spotted during the Pet Sounds concert from the Beach Boys legend?

    17. Zubat

    Bob Marshall

Not quite. Zubat fittingly popped up during "God Only Knows." God only knows how hard Zubats are to catch on the first Pokéball.

    18. Drowzee

    Bob Marshall

Oh, look who it is! Drowzee showed up again during my favorite set of the weekend from rapper Anderson .Paak.

    19. Jinx

    Bob Marshall

My first Jinx spawned in a giant slow-moving crowd of people migrating from Anderson .Paak to Saturday night headliner, Sufjan Stevens.

    20. Poliwag

    Bob Marshall

The crowd was moving so slowly that I caught a second Pokémon.

    21. Drowzee

    Bob Marshall

It wouldn't be an afterparty without Drowzee.

    22. Pidgey

    Bob Marshall

I dropped a lure to get the afterparty even more hopping. Unfortunately, all I got out of the experience was a lowly Pidgey.

    23. Spearow

    Bob Marshall

Kicking off the final day of the fest, I encountered the world's smallest Spearow hanging out next to my Bloody Mary. I wonder if he was so angry because of his diminutive stature.

    24. Poliwag

    Bob Marshall

No doubt a big fan of Holy Ghost's giant modular synth.

    25. Jinx

    Bob Marshall

Jinx was clearly rolling on some sort of substance during Neon Indian. She tried to sell me some pills and beads.

    26. Krabby

    Bob Marshall

Krabby is evidently a secret emo kid and fan of The Hotelier. To be honest, if I looked like Krabby, I'd probably be a little sad too.

    27. Drowzee (AGAIN)

    Bob Marshall

    GAAAAHHHHH

    28. Shellder

    Bob Marshall

I was wondering what Shellder was doing so far from a water source, but apparently he was waiting for Jeremih to bring out Chance the Rapper for an incredible surprise performance.

    29. Drowzee

    Bob Marshall

An appropriate festival send-off from this year's biggest star. (Not to take anything away from Sunday headliner FKA Twigs.) I hope to never see another Drowzee again.
