You’ll Never Guess Where These Black Panther Actors Came From

From Friday Night Lights to Cold Case, the paths these stars took to the silver screen

Yes, we all know about the Black Panther movie. It’s dropping February 15 and people can’t wait to see it.

But what you might not know is where all the actors in the star-studded cast got their starts.

Meet Chadwick Boseman, the actor playing the Black Panther, T’Challa. He wasn’t always the big name star. In fact, one of his first roles was as Cold Case extra Dexter Collins, a guy who couldn’t make it a whole episode without getting shot and killed.

But he has found his way onto the big screen as of late, first playing Jackie Robinson in 42...

Before testing his hand at law as Thurgood Marshall in Marshall

Probably the most recognizable actor in the movie is Michael B. Jordan in the role of Erik Killmonger. No, not that Michael Jordan….

    This Michael B. Jordan!

With clear eyes and full hearts, Michael jump started his football career for East Dillon in NBC’s hit series Friday Night Lights as Vince Howard. #TexasForever

Taking time out of being on the big screen, he played Oscar Grant in the true story about the events that unfolded in Fruitvale station in 2008.

He is also carrying on the Apollo Creed legacy as he is mentored by Rocky Balboa to be as great as his father once was.

I’m sure you guys also know Daniel Kaluuya, and if you don’t, get out. Kaluuya plays the main character, Chris, in Jordan Peele’s thriller.

Kaluuya also stars as Bing Madsen in the “Fifteen Million Merits” Episode of Black Mirror.

The English actor also had a cameo role in the British Television hit series Dr. Who. Kaluuya makes a brief appearance as Barclay in the “Planet of the Dead” episode.

One British actor, Martin Freeman, crosses the pond to play Everett K Ross in the film. He’s also anything but elementary as Sherlock’s sidekick Dr. Watson in the popular BBC show.

When he isn’t solving crime, he’s living in the Shire as Bilbo Baggins.

Or finding love as a professional body double in Love, Actually.

Sterling K. Brown shifts from television family man to mysterious movie royalty as he portrays N’Jobu. Brown is an Emmy Award Winning actor and he currently stars in NBC’s popular drama “This Is Us” as Randall, one of the three triplets.

Sterling K. Brown portrayed prosecutor Christopher Darden in FX’s highly rated award winning television event series, “The People Vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”

And when he wasn’t on the prosecutor stand, he was Joseph Spell, the wrongly accused defendant starring alongside Chadwick Boseman in Marshall.

The Black Panther also boasts a strong female cast. Meet Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Nakia, a warrior and intelligence officer of Wakanda. Nyong’o broke onto the scene and won an Oscar for her role as Patsey in 12 Years A Slave.

And for all those Disney fans, she plays Mowgli’s adopted wolf mother, Raksha, in the live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book.

The force is also strong with her, as she made an appearance as Maz Kanata, a pirate queen, in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Nyong’o is aided by another fierce lady, Danai Gurira, who comes from the television world to play Okoye. Gurira also plays a fierce warrior on TV where she kicks zombie’s butts in The Walking Dead as Michonne.

And she shared some of that “California Love” as Afeni Shakur in All Eyez on Me.

With all these stars, there’s good reason to get excited for Marvel’s Black Panther, hitting theaters February 15th.
