Raise your hand if you have ever been personally victimised by Regina George. Mhmm, not good. Regina didn’t like murder anyone or blow up a planet or steal Christmas, but she was kind of a bitch/bully to just about everybody. She preyed on adolescent insecurities to conserve and revel in her position as Queen Bee. Harmless schoolyard antics? Or an accessory to teenage depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self harm, substance abuse… Not good. But then she got hit by a bus and her therapist taught her to channel all her rage into sports. She grows into a sense of kinship, morality and mindfulness… yep: redeemed.

Regina George

You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch. The Grinch was spiteful, antisocial and enough of a killjoy to birth his own eponym: he’s a _grinch_. What could be more evil than stealing Christmas? Sure, he wasn’t able to truly steal Christmas, because in the end the spirit of Christmas shone through the Whos of Whoville. But the sentiment was definitely there. Thankfully, in his ‘failure,’ the Grinch saw that Christmas was about more than just vapid, wasteful materialism. But about love. The Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day. The true meaning of Christmas came through, and the Grinch found the strength of ten Grinches, plus two!

_“…I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory, and even put a stopper in death.”_ — Severus Snape  
Right from the get-go, Severus Snape is the unreasonable hard-ass professor — picking on the loveable H.P. protagonists, playing favourites, and all around just a bit of a dick. Snape’s generalised dickish aura is maintained throughout the saga, simmering gently, with intermittent bouts of heroism that slowly develop him as a sort of troubled antihero with a good heart. But… finally, this boils over, and violently. Snape is seen to commit the ultimate betrayal. _Avada Kedavra!_ Spoiler: Snape’s redemption comes when it is revealed that all his bad behaviour was all along part of a plan to protect Harry and overthrow Lord Voldemort. Snape’s inner-turmoil, bravery and sacrifice send him off as perhaps the greatest hero of the H.P. saga.

_“You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the force... not leave it in darkness!”_ — Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Anakin Skywalker.  
Anakin Skywalker… what a wild ride. The small slave boy prodigy, immaculately conceived, star-crossed, plucked from the desert by fate and wandering Jedi. Anakin grew to be one of the most powerful Jedi ever. But his abilities made him… arrogant. And geez, being “the _chosen one_" — just imagine that kind of pressure. Eventually, Anakin’s feelings got the better of him and he was seduced by the Dark Side. He kills younglings, he blows up planets, he uses the Force to strangle people. ‘Anakin’ became Darth Vader. And Darth Vader was indeed a very bad man. After a turbulent and complicated reunion with his son Luke, when all hope seems lost, daddy Skywalker’s heart is given one last chance to shine the light. He sacrifices his life to save his son and daughter. There was still good in him: _“Tell your sister… you were right.”_

Vivian: _Nice outfit._  
Elle : _Oh, I like your outfit too, except when I dress up as a frigid bitch, I try not to look so constipated._  
Fair. The rivalry between Elle and Vivian in _Legally Blonde_ saw some pretty cutting swipes. Deception, humiliation, seclusion. But in some ways, Vivian was more in herself a victim than she was a true villain. Her and Elle’s feud appeared, in part, to stem from the trashy, misogynistic men in their lives. Chiefly: _Warner_ — Elle’s ex and Vivian’s fiancé. Vivian’s on-screen redemption is achieved when her and Elle end up finding a shared respect for one another, and a shared realisation that yep, men suck. They graduate together as partners in crime-fighting, and as good friends.

The mysterious creepy thin man… Little is known about the thin man of the _Charlie’s Angels_ duology. He emerges from the shadows, sometimes at the most suspicious of moments, sometimes just in time. In episode 1 he appeared to be merely a hired sword in someone else’s more sinister game. But come _Full Throttle_, the thin man surprised the Angels with a valiant gesture of love and sacrifice… albeit still rather creepy.

Diego the _Ice Age_ sabre-tooth… that cunning bastard. Diego befriends Manny the Mammoth and Sid the Sloth, but only as part of his vicious scheme to get them and their human-adoptee eaten by his sabre-toothed pack. He earns their trust with blood-thirsty betrayal in mind. But when Diego is accepted into this motley, cuddly gang, he learns what it means to have true friends, to care about others, and maybe even something about being a father.

_“Tell your chef Linguini that I want whatever he dares to serve me. Tell him to hit me with his best SHOT!”_ — Anton Ego  
The dreaded Anton Ego… infamous Parisian food critic, with glaring undertones of Grim Reaper. With the mere chattering of his typewriter Anton could crush a hundred restaurants, a thousand chefs, a million waiters. He could, and he did. True, Anton’s wrath was really an expression of his deep _love_ for food, but Anton let this love evolve into something callous, domineering and elitist. When the skeletal figure of Anton emerges from the shadows, Remy the rat and the staff of _Gusteau’s_ are faced with their ultimate gastronomical challenge: to cook for Anton. And of course, as soon as Remy’s Ratatouille touches his lips, Anton is thrown into a dreamlike childhood memory: warm afternoon sunlight, the rich aroma of roasting summer vegetables, and his mother’s love. He writes a deeply moved review of _Gusteau’s_, and his philosophies on love and on food are realigned, in the most redeeming of ways.

_“Listen, and understand. That terminator is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.”_ — Kyle Reese  
The deadly visage of the Terminator left audiences of the ‘80s trembling. Here is a familiar shape, a person, looking not too different from you or me, but utterly stripped back of any humanity, any emotion. All that’s left is a force, the raw embodiment of a killer. _T2: Judgement Day_ saw Arnie's return. Much to our horror: He’s back. But at that moment of panic, the Terminator turns to protect John Connor, sacrificing his all, every ounce of energy within him to fight off the Liquid Metal Man. John Connor teaches the Terminator to high-five, to throw shade… and even, just maybe, to love.

_“It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing.”_ — Boromir  
Boromir was the first of the Fellowship whose mind fell victim to the insidious powers of the _One Ring_. Slowly, his faith in their quest was corrupted. In his heart grew a burning itch he could not scratch. Take the ring. Use the ring. Eventually, alone with Frodo, Boromir’s will-power finally topples as he tries to take the ring by force. Caught in a panic of rage and guilt, Boromir fights to the death to protect the Hobbits from an Orc ambush. His gesture is of shame, but also honour. Dying in Aragorn’s arms, Boromir confesses his betrayal. And at least by some regards, achieves his redemption.
