It's actually based on a John Grisham [novel](http://www.jgrisham.com/movie-christmas-with-the-kranks/) called _Skipping Christmas._

This is false!

Of course, the [role](http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/11-things-you-might-not-6812057) ended up going to Will Ferrell.

This is true!

He's even listed in the end credits as "The [Old Man](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085334/)."

The studio changed the name from _Fred Claus_ to _Joe Claus_ due to a [legal](http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/fred-claus-is-new-twist-153250) issue, but once the issue was resolved, the title was changed back to _Fred Claus_.

This is mostly true.

All of Culkin's stunts on set were [performed](http://sploid.gizmodo.com/a-30-year-old-man-did-all-the-stunts-for-macaulay-culki-1672507291) by a 30-year-old Culkin lookalike.
