Big Cat Rescue is the largest accredited sanctuary in the world dedicated entirely to abused and abandoned big cats. Founded in 1992, Big Cat Rescue is now home to over 100 rescued big cats, we are situated on 55 acres in Tampa Florida.

    How do lions, tigers and leopards stay cool and refreshed during the summer? … Big Cat Popsicles of course! As part of our enrichment program at Big Cat Rescue we make our residents frozen treats that they really enjoy! These include bloodsicles, sardine martinis and poultry pops!

  • Foster Kitten Program

    Millions of cats, kittens, dogs and puppies are killed in shelters each year because they are deemed non adoptable… Often it’s because the kittens and puppies are still nursing, or because the overcrowded conditions in the shelters causes illness before the animals can find homes. Big Cat Rescue saw an opportunity to help with this situation and decided to start a foster kitten program at the sanctuary! We provide a temporary home for orphaned kittens or nursing moms, bottle feed the kittens, provide veterinary care and get them weaned before transporting them back to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, where they are spayed, neutered and then put up for adoption! So far we have saved over 100 kittens and cats and found them all forever homes! :) Please don’t breed or buy while shelter pets die…

  • I Don't Want A Pet Tiger!

    Big Cats Make Bad Pets! Cheyenne (5 years old) visited Big Cat Rescue for the first time, learned about the sanctuary’s mission and why tigers and lions DON’T belong in backyards! It is estimated that there are 10,000 to 20,000 big cats currently held in private ownership in the U.S., although the exact number remains a mystery. In the past 21 years, U.S. incidents involving captive big cats-including tigers, lions, cougars, leopards, jaguars, cheetahs and lion/tiger hybrids-have resulted in the deaths of 22 humans, 248 maulings, 260 escapes, 144 big cats deaths and 141 confiscations.
