"Okay, it's not exactly a *hidden gem*, and I'm sure people all over the world love it, but honestly it has to be mentioned as one of the best recent British shows! The combination of humour and emotional scenes is spot on, and I can't wait for season four!"

2. The Fall

BBC2

Genre: Drama 

"It's brilliantly acted by Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson, and is all-round captivating."

3. Motherland

BBC2

Genre: Sitcom

"It's a fantastic take on what it's like to be a mother in England. I loved it as a teacher, and seeing it from the parent's perspective. Very, very funny."

4. In My Skin

BBC Three

Genre: Dark comedy

"It's one of the best, most unheard-of and underrated dramas of the last few years. It's a really well-told story about a teenage girl's struggles with her mum's mental health, abusive dad, her sexuality, and the pressures of school life, but with some humour too."

5. Outnumbered

Genre: Comedy

"If you have kids or don't and fancy a laugh at those who do, then it's a must-watch!"

6. It's A Sin

Channel 4

Genre: Drama

"It's an excellent five-part show set in London during the '80s and '90s about a group of young gay men living together and the impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic on them. I binge-watched it one weekend and I swear it took me days to get over."

"It's from Michaela Coel. It's a great show, and if you had a binge weekend of Chewing Gum and I May Destroy You, you will see what an outstanding writer and actor Michaela is."

"It's a hilarious, sweet, sad, and AMAZING show about a group of would-be criminals just trying to make it in their small town. It's just so human and beautiful and will make you laugh until you cry."

11. The Inbetweeners

"It's honestly one of the funniest shows I've seen in my 38 years. It's about four secondary school (high school) boys chasing girls and getting into trouble doing it. HIGHLY recommend it!!"

BBC One

Genre: Sitcom 

"Michael Sheen, David Tennant, and director/producer Simon Evans plan on using the COVID lockdown to rehearse Luigi Pirandello's absurdist theatre chestnut Six Characters in Search of an Author via Zoom to be ready to stage it when the lockdown is over. Things... don't... go to plan.

IT'S HILARIOUS. If you are a fan of 'the ineffable husbands' on Good Omens, DO NOT miss them here."

"It's easily in the top five television programs I've ever watched, and might very well be the top. It's clever and heart-wrenching, with plot-twists galore, and a phenomenal cast led by Shaun Evans and Roger Allan. If you're a fan of smart detective stories, this is a can't-miss!"

"Such an underrated show. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it, it's so funny and sad and just wonderful all around."

"This is probably one of the most realistic shows I've seen when it comes to the lives of teenagers. It tackles really difficult topics such as mental health and body image in a way that feels as though the characters understand you. Just prepare yourself for complete emotional turmoil, TBH."
