Don’t skip leg day We've mentioned before that you should expect a few hills and stairs, and we're not kidding. You will be walking up and down stairs, across campus, uphill both ways, in the snow - and that's just between classes, not even including the trek to and from the residence halls. All this, with a backpack loaded with textbooks. Craft a budget Welcome to being an adult. First thing you should know is that money is very easy to spend. Creating a weekly budget will help you stay on track and avoid having an awkward phone call with Mom and Dad later in the semester! When it comes to your meal plan, keep track of how many times you can go to the dining halls in a week, and how many leftover swipes you'll have for your friends without meal plans. Also, know how much you can spend of your Flex Dollars per week - maybe even figure out exactly how many bagels, chicken tenders or cheese sticks you can get per week with said Flex Dollars (or, you know, healthy food). Don't forget to budget for all your other regular expenditures, too! Set your sleep schedule now Look at your class schedule. How early will you need to wake up in order to get to class on time – and without breaking a sweat? Sleep, like attendance, is required. Get to bed on time to make sure you’re fresh as a spring daisy for classes. Live on campus? Get to know your roommate early If you already know who your roommate is going to be, get to know each other early over email, Facebook or whatever method of communication works best for both of you. (Of course, meeting in person would be best!) You will be living together for a while, after all. It might be helpful to decide who will bring what items to the room, too - maybe you don't need two TVs, for example. Get involved, get connected Go to UKnight and IMleagues and check out all the available clubs and intramurals! There are over 90 student organizations to choose from, and several intramural leagues in which you can compete for that illustrious winners' t-shirt. Get hyped for all the cool stuff you can do both in and outside the classroom.Speaking of the classroom, make sure you know what resources are available to you. The Student Success Center includes the Writing Center, Testing Center, Tutoring Center, advising, and more. Take advantage of these free services to make the most of your fall semester. Keep up with athletic events Want to keep up with Bellarmine Athletics, and always know when there's a game to attend? Subscribe to the athletics calendar! Go here and click the links for adding the schedule to your iCal calendar, Google Calendar, or any other calendar that can read iCal or RSS feeds. You can even filter the events by sport and game location (home, away or neutral). Or, if you organize your schedule the old-fashioned way, print out a copy of the schedule and hang it in your room. After that, get out and support your fellow Knights on game day!
