28 Splurge-Worthy Pet Products That’ll Basically Pay For Themselves Over Time

From a Furbo pet camera to the cutest carrying bag, these splurges are well, well worth it.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed collects a share of sales and/or other compensation from the links on this page. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. An extremely durable pet carrier that's great for traveling with your pup, as well as offering them a safe space to sleep while on the go. After trying a variety of different pet carriers, this bag is my favorite thanks to its spacious design, sturdy silhouette, top handles, messenger strap, and thick-yet-see-through mesh paneling (many of the other carriers I've tried are SO dark and my little man just isn't about it).

Black and white dog in camo carrier

What's more, this bag has a spacious zip pocket on one end, so you have somewhere to store your wallet, phone, and keys instead of having to turn into *that* bag person.

Promising review: "I use this bag literally every day and it's held up very well (I've had it for four months). My Frenchie took right to it with no effort on my part. Sometimes he just jumps in his bag and takes a nap in there. My Frenchie is now 7 months, approximately 20 pounds, and fits very well with space to spread out but it does get heavy to carry, understandably so. I would recommend it for use as a car seat or travel bag. It's also just really stylish. Pros: Sturdy bottom, top or side zipper entrance, heavy-duty, shoulder strap doubles as a leash, and the side pocket is useful. Cons: There's no collar clip for when using it as a car seat (you can easily buy a short leash and hook it to the provided carabiner). I wish it had a luggage handle sleeve for when used to travel. I also think the shoulder strap is a little short but I'm tall so it might just be me." —Natasha

Get it from Amazon for $150.

    2. A Furbo pet camera so you can keep an eye on your fur baby at all times. Whether you're in the other room or another state, the treat-dispensing, pet-monitoring camera will become a staple in your home — especially since you can record videos and talk to your pet through it.

    Syd Robinson / BuzzFeed

Promising review: "I was always concerned leaving my puppy home alone because he will cry a lot... When I got the Furbo, things got much better! Furbo sent me notifications to my phone when he was crying, so I would log on and talk to him right away. This changed everything!! My puppy knows I'm always there, so his separation anxiety is getting better. He cries less, and I feel much more relieved." —Susan

Get it from Amazon for $169 (originally $249).

    3. A Top Paw® super-wide convertible pet gate for folks looking for ways to keep their pet(s) safe without putting them in a crate for long periods of time. This sturdy pet gate can be assembled as a gate or configured into a pen with extra panels. Just keep in mind that, standing at 28 inches tall, it's best for small and medium-sized dogs, as larger dogs could jump over it if they wanted to.

    The Pet Gate

Promising review:"I just got my second Boston Terrier puppy, a little 8 wk old boy. My girl Boston is 7 years old and was a wonder to train. Not so the boy! I use the convertible gate just propped up against the wall at this stage because I also use it as a play yard outside. I plan to attach it to my walls when my boy gets better used to being outside and still listening. My gate has been a sanity saver. Fogarty is a rambunctious boy!" –2Bostons

Get it from PetSmart for $144.99.

    4. A top-rated dog training collar that will help teach your pup to sit, stay, come, and even not to bark. The waterproof collar comes with beep, vibration, and static modes that alert your dog but won't hurt them.

Reviewer Photo: A pup with the collar on

Promising review: "I was a little iffy about the collar at first because Gus was so scared just by the vibration setting. Now he wags his tail when I pick up the collar (he knows he’s going out), and I only have to use the tone to correct any misbehaviors. He ignores prey animals on walks and I can fully relax at the dog park because he doesn’t try to mount other dogs anymore. The battery has a good life so far. The remote has great range, even when I use it hidden inside my pocket. Love this thing!!" –Allyssa Graafsm

Get it from Amazon for $69.99.

    5. A set of swivel pet stairs so your pet can easily get onto the bed, couch, or chair. The stairs can be aligned straight or finagled around the corner of a bed or couch. What's more, the stairs are hollow and have a latched door, so you can store pet products in it to keep them out of sight.

Promising review: "My miniature poodle mix is 13 and I noticed she was struggling with steeper stairs. She's short and long and needed a little break to rest going up and down. She loves her new stairs and I can tell they are so much easier for her to use. We leave ours in the long version, right beside the bed, and they are perfect. Our other girl loves and uses them as well. Worth every penny." –Lele

Get it from Chewy for $129.99.

    6. A faux fur orthopedic dog bed that looks more like a high-end sheepskin than a waterproof pup bed. The cult-favorite dog bed is made with four layers, the top of which is removable and machine-washable, and the second topmost is waterproof to protect the other two layers from soiling.

    The faux fur dog bed

Promising review: "Our dog loves this bed so very much. It is so comfortable that she gets much better quality of sleep and at six years old she now has the energy of a young dog again. Sometimes my hubby lays on it too! (and then our dog wears an expression that reads 'What the heck dude! Get off my bed!') It is easy to wash, air dry, and put back together. It cleans up beautifully. It looks like an expensive skin rug which fits the style of our old farmhouse. This bed is well worth every penny we paid for it. In fact, we are buying her a second bed for the upstairs, as she refuses to sleep anywhere else now. " –Kimberly N.

Get it from for $139 (originally $349; available in seven colors and three sizes).

    7. A top-selling pet ramp to ensure your pup can easily get into and out of the car. The folding ramp weighs about 10 pounds and can support up to 150 pounds. What's more, it's lined with a non-slip mat that will help give your pup more traction while on it.

    Reviewer Photo: The pet ramp

Promising review: "I have been looking all over for a sturdy, lightweight, easily transportable car ramp for our aging Collie. There are many ramps out there, but not that show the use with a normal car side door. Most show pictures of the ramp being used on the back of a large pick-up truck, or with the sliding doors of a van, or SUV. The PetSafe Happy Ride Folding 62" Pet Ramp works perfectly with our Nissan Sentra. Our dog is 79 pounds and the ramp is 100% sturdy and secure. Yes, the walking surface is rough (I could easily file my nails on it) but it does not seem to bother my dog at all. The pads of her feet are not bothered by this. We had attempted to make our own ramp which she refused to use, it was wobbly and difficult to fit it precisely in the door opening, but the PetSafe ramp fits just right, and is long enough to not be too steep of a climb into the car. Very happy with my purchase!" –Kathi Horste

Get it from Amazon for $69.95.

    8. Or a backseat car extender so your dog doesn't accidentally fall off the seat while you're driving. And don't worry, it comes with a pop-up flap to keep them from having access to the front seat over the center console, so it's safe for everyone.

    The backseat extender

Promising review: "I have 13-year-old Scottie who insists on riding on the center console of my car. We don't travel far in the car, so she's safe. Rounding the corner, no matter how slow I go, sometimes she would slip off of the console and at times land on the floor. I was worried she would get hurt. This bridge solved the problem! She sits on it and pokes her head through the two seats. She doesn't fall at all as she is sitting on a flat surface now. This bridge rocks!" –Marty

Get it from Amazon for $82.95 (available in two colors).

    9. A backpack designed specifically to carry your pet around on your back. It's roomy, water-resistant, and perfect for puppies who aren't quite the best leash walkers.

    The backpack in action

Promising review: "This thing is great! I was hesitant due to the cost but after two cheaper carriers that were not comfortable, I decided to bite the bullet and am glad I did. I have a 9-pound poodle mix puppy who will top out at around 12-14 lbs max. I'm an avid hiker so he HAS to come with me!! He enjoys the woods but obviously, he can only do so much. He took to this pack immediately and seemed quite content, didn't fuss or fidget, and after a bit of walking, he was all too happy to hop back in for another ride. The non-dog sections are generous with some convenient and well-placed inner pockets, and the side mesh pockets are plenty big enough for large Nalgene bottles. The pack seems really well made and it was comfortable for me to wear. The hard plastic bottom dug into my back a little at first but some repositioning seemed to alleviate that. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a 'real' backpack to carry your pup without having to have another pack for your gear." –Geeky1

Get it from Amazon for $134.99 (originally $149.99; available in two colors).

    10. A Petmate kennel that will quickly become a safe space for your pup. I put Cash (my pup) in his at night and he sleeps like a baby. I also use it on long car rides, as it has a seatbelt slot so that you can easily secure it in your backseat. What's more, there's a little compartment on the top where you can store treats for your pup. It's a win all around.

    The Kennel

Promising review: "We just upgraded to a larger kennel for our quickly growing puppy. I purchased the 36"/50-70 pound size for my goldendoodle and he loves it. I've always used traditional crates for my puppies in the past, but my uncle convinced me to try this style of kennel, as it mimics the den behavior that is natural to dogs. We have setup our puppies smaller kennel for our Italian Greyhound who traditionally doesn't like being crated. He loves it and goes in willingly just to nap during the day! This style of kennel is easy to put together as well as break back down in order to store. I highly recommend it!" –Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $119.95 (available in six sizes).

    11. A booster seat for your small pet so they can see out the window whenever you take them on a ride. It comes with three stabilizing attachments, so in addition to giving them the best view, it keeps them safe, too.

Reviewer Photo: Pups in the booster seat

Promising review: "Perfect!! I was in a car accident and hit an elk on the highway. My pups were fine because they were secured in their pet booster seat and in their harness. I, on the other hand, fractured my arm and dislocated my wrist blocking the elk that landed in the driver's side window and also from the airbag. My car was totaled. They then got a front seat ride in the ambulance in their pet seat. They also slept next to my hospital bed in their pet seat waiting for my husband to arrive." –SVL

Get it from Amazon for $69.99 (available in two sizes and three colors).

    12. A dog DNA kit so you can finally know what breed(s) your pup is. After all, if you rescued them, more often than not, the fosters and/or rescue organization are simply offering their best bet on their breed.

    Dog DNA Diagram

Promising review: "Very cool. My dog is a rescue and I was told he was a border collie mix. His personality lead me to do a test because he just didn’t have the personality a border collie. Come to find out he’s a Shih Tzu-pitbull mix which makes way more sense. I included a picture because everyone has a hard time picturing a Shih Tzu pit mix." –dede123

Get it from Amazon for $149.99 (originally $199.99).

    13. Or! A cat DNA test because dog owners aren't the only ones wishing to know more about their pet's breed. This top-rated test was featured on Shark Tank, so it's already ~shark-approved~!

    Cat DNA test results

Promising review: "Our rescue kitty looks a lot like a rag doll/Siamese (as you can see). The results concluded a mix of Ragdoll, Birman, Savannah, and Himalayan, which are all reasonable considering her appearance. The process took about five weeks, so be patient. We were satisfied with the results and it has been a lot of fun to read and learn more about the different breeds. We do not have the health information yet but we are looking forward to receiving that information as well. Coincidentally, we spoke to our vet about the test and process and she was very supportive as well. She was eager to hear the results. :)" –DH

Get it from Amazon for $108.99 (originally $129.99).

    14. A travel bag made especially with pups in mind. The roomy backpack comes with two food carriers, a placemat, and two silicone bowls for easy (and clean!) eating on the go, as well as a spacious interior where you can pack blankets and toys. What's more, the front pouch has a built-in place for poo bags, so you'll never be without one again.

Reviewer's picture of the backpack in blue

Promising review: "This is the best doggie bookbag ever! This is very well made. It’s beautiful and well worth the money. You won’t regret it. We love it!!!!" –Bethany mooney

Get it from Amazon for $69.99 (available in four colors).

    15. A Casper dog bed that's designed with extra fabric to give your pup a safe space to paw around. It's framed with bolsters so they have a cozy place to lay their head, too.

    The dog bed

Promising review: "Ok. In the world of dog beds, Casper has gotten this right. All too often people are forced to spend too much money on a substandard product that will just pancake out over time. This bed was easy to assemble, the fabric is incredibly durable, and it looks good with a nice thick cushion and sidewalls for head resting. The cushions themselves are also wrapped. I have a large borzoi and it fits him very perfectly. It's well worth the money spent and now Casper should think about adding more range to the cover color selection and they will have it made. Even my cats love this. Getting another for upstairs." –LindaH

Get it from Amazon for $125 (available in three colors and three sizes).

    16. A Wild One harness walk kit so your pup will look as stylish as possible on their walks. The kit comes with a harness, leash, and poo bag dispenser, all of which are sold in the same color. I have the spruce set and absolutely love it.

    Wild One

Promising review: "I value the versatility of the harness with the three leash attachments. Though the leash feels weighty, I love how easy it is to disinfect and wipe clean and also the ability to adjust the leash length. Though the review is for the walk kit. I need to praise the Wild One for the conscious packaging. Yay to plastic-free! 🌍 🐾" –Daisy C.

Get it from Wild One for $98 (originally $118; available in eight colors and four sizes).

    17. A self-cleaning litter box for cats who always have to go and cat parents who hate having to clean up after them. The automated litter box scoops waste away to keep the box and surrounding area smelling fresh for days on end.

Reviewer's photo of the litter box

Promising review: "The crystals work so well, I didn't think they were using the box, I thought they were just going in and out. I had to witness them using it to believe it. No smell at all!! I will be buying another down the road." –Gloria Silvers

Get it from Amazon for $169.95 (available in three colors).

    18. A Snuggle Puppy so your pup won't feel quite as alone when you're not around. What seems like a slightly larger toy is actually a behavioral aid device complete with a heartbeat that can be turned on and off. Take it from someone who has one for her puppy: It's life-changing!

Reviewer Photo: Puppy snuggling with snuggle puppy

Promising review: "I was skeptical about getting a $40 stuffed animal for my dog, but I’m so glad I did! We got our Frenchie on a Monday night and we were up three times that night with her and Tuesday night. The puppy buddy came in on Wednesday evening and I immediately let her use it. I turned on the heart beat for her and she was immediately intrigued by it. The final test was seeing how she did overnight. She slept all night! We heard her whine for not even a full minute at one point but she went back to sleep quickly. She now looks for her puppy when she is ready to lay down." —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $40 (available in five colors).

    19. An automatic pet feeder for pet parents who sometimes forget to feed on time. This setup — which holds up to 12 meals — lets your program feedings so your fur baby will never go hungry.

Reviewer Photo: Kitten in front of feeder

Promising review: "This feeder prevents my cats from yowling at the bedroom door at the crack of dawn. They have a routine that involves beginning their food demands about an hour prior to feeding time (jerks) and god help you if you want to sleep in. If the mealtime is delayed, my fat boy will throw himself against the door, because he is insane. This feeder has broken them of this frustrating habit. They still yowl at night because we’re still out and about, but if we go to bed, they stop. It is, in short, my favorite of our house-robots. Which is high praise, because the vacuum is pretty amazing as well. The lid latches, which makes it impossible for a cat to force open (believe me, the fat one tries) but still simple for those of us with fingers. The lid is the entire top of the unit, so filling it doesn’t require ninja-like reflexes or makeshift funnels. And I highly recommend the AC power cord accessory, as it makes the feeder more reliable." –MD

Get it from Amazon for $99.95 (originally $119.99).

    20. A backyard kitty compound so your cat has somewhere safe and fun to play outside. The durable mesh tent and tunnel provides over 30 square feet of space, so they'll have plenty of space to romp around.

    The backyard kitty compound

Promising review: "It took a little time for our otherwise indoor cats to get used to it but now they love this thing. It’s so nice to be able to sit out on our deck and have the cats with us instead of begging at the window to come join us. Recommend adding something soft to curl up on in and throw in some cat toys." –Catperson

Get it from Chewy for $69.95.

    21. An L-shaped bolstered dog bed to give your pup plenty of places to rest their head. The orthopedic bed is lined with faux fur so that they'll want to snuggle up on it all day long.

Promising review: "This bed is very nice and solid for the price. Only time will tell if it’ll stand up to regular use, but so far my 120 lbs.-worth of dogs fit comfortably on it together, and it doesn’t sag under their weight. As I write this review, the Boxer’s snores are resounding in approval! If my two start sleeping apart more often, I’ll definitely buy a second one, but they mostly prefer to snuggle together and the jumbo size bed is big enough for them to share." –K.Ross

Get it from Fur Haven on Amazon for $58.99 (available in 25 styles and 10 sizes).

    22. A cat cage playpen for frisky kitties who like to get into everything. With this 5.5-foot cage, your cat(s) will be able to climb, play, and lounge in one of two hammocks while you're away.

    The cat cage

Promising review: "Salem absolutely LOVES his new outdoor lounge space! He loves the sights, sounds, and smells of the outdoors and especially loves when the neighbors come by to visit him but needs a safe space to take it all in. He was already the coolest cat in the neighborhood and now that he has a Catio space as cool as he is, he’s also the happiest!" –SalemsGrandma

Get it from Chewy for $143.

    23. A cult-favorite Wild One pet carrier that's now available in the brand's signature green spruce color. The airline-approved carrier is unique in that, when unzipped, the side unfurls into a mat that your pup can lay on. What's more, it has a side pocket so you can bring along your phone, wallet, and keys without fumbling them in your hands.

    Wild One

Promising review: "So happy with this carrier! It holds up and fits under the airline seat. I have a 10-pound Cavapoo and she was able to comfortably rest in this carrier the whole time. It has more than enough room for her! And the hook on the inside keeps her secure so she can’t escape!" –Caroline H.

Get it from Wild One for $125 (available in three colors).

    24. A jumbo pack of Best Bully Sticks, because they will keep your pup entertained for hours on end. Take it from someone whose 5-month-old puppy is completely and totally obsessed. (Just be sure to watch your pup while they're chewing on them, as you'll want to take it away once they whittle it down to a couple of inches.)

Reviewer Photo: Puppy chewing on a Bully Stick

Promising review: "Our breeder recommended Bully Sticks for our Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. She gave us one in our puppy package. From the moment I handed it over, my puppy was in heaven! I knew I had to buy some. Puppies tend to get bored and move from one toy to the next, but if I give her a Bully Stick, I know that it keeps her attention and I can have a bit of time to myself. I can hear her chewing on it so I know she's preoccupied and happy (and not chewing on my sofa). At 12 weeks of age, each one can easily last her a few days to a week. I love that they're odor-free. They're slightly gross to pick up after she's been gnawing on it, but I do recommend putting it away to "keep the magic" and only letting her have it now and again (and so you don't step on it with a barefoot...ewwww). It's a great item that I'm sure we'll be purchasing for her entire life!" –Erin

Get it from Amazon for $99.99.

    25. A backseat dog hammock so your pup will stay confined but free in the car. The easy-to-install hammock protects your seats and comes with harness attachments to help keep your dogs secure, too. It's a win-win for everyone.

    Reviewer Photo: The Backseat Cover

Promising review: "I bought this to protect the leather interior of my new car, since my little monsters love their car rides. It was pretty easy to install, and folded nicely for trunk storage when not in use. The underside is a little grippy, so it doesn't seem to slide around much once spread out. It also helps that there are little bolsters that can be pushed in the seat crack to secure. It also came with two seat belt tethers, and there are Velcro flaps to access the seat belt latches if needed. My favorite is the split zipper design—when just dogs, I like using the 'hammock' style. If you need leg room for a person, it can be unzipped across the seat edge creating a flap, but still leaving the partition from the front seat. There is also a vertical zipper, like a 3/4 split. This is useful if you want a front seat cover, or if you want hammock on one side, person on the other. I like the side flaps too. There are extra straps for using these 'up' for full hammock, but I usually just use them to drape the sides of the seat when getting in/out. The material seems pretty sturdy, and so far I've only had to shake out fur after using. I have not tested water/mud resistance as of yet. Overall, this is a great product, and I highly recommend. There's even extra storage on the seat back!" –Zyreah

Get it from Amazon for $55.99.

    26. A pet stroller for dogs and cats who can't keep up on long walks. The hooded stroller provides a safe, cozy, shades space for them to lounge while you push them along.

Promising review: "If you have any doubts on durability, let me end them now. I pushed this rig with a 25-pound dog up and down dirt trails, over rocks, though sand and grass for a week on Star Island in the Isles of Shoals (Maine and NH). Upon returning home, I am still using it and it works great. Any wheel shimmy as some complained about by a rater goes any any use in less than a couple of days. This baby is built to last and I can't think of a complaint. I have pushed it over one HUNDRED miles." –Nelson E Linscott

Get it from Amazon for $92.98 (available in five colors).

    27. A PupProtector™ faux fur, waterproof throw blanket to keep your furniture and car seats free of stains. The faux fur blanket is made with a unique waterproof internal lining so even if liquid seeps through to the interior, it will never get all the way through the blanket to whatever it is you're protecting. (Trust me, I have four of them and swear by them for my beds and sofa.)

Dog sitting on the fuzzy blanket

Promising review: "The blankets are very soft and well made. The size is perfect for a couch or a full or queen size bed. The dogs love the fur and the fact that they are now allowed to sit on the couch if they stay on the blanket, which they gladly do." –Karen L.

Get it from for $119 (originally $298; available in three colors and two sizes).

    28. A weather-proof aluminum pet door so your pet can walk outside at their leisure. The door is available in an array of sizes to accommodate dogs up to 200 pounds. While it's outfitted with a flap that pets can easily breeze through, it can be adjusted so that they can only use it when you want them to, so it won't become an easy entrance for intruders either.

    The pet door in action

Promising review: "I love our Petsafe Doggie Door! It allows us the freedom to be away from home and not worrying about leaving our two dogs alone too long. It also has a good seal keeping out the elements." –Carolinarose
