There are two reasons for that:
Firstly, for years, I believed that ChapStick was the ultimate lipcare evil thanks to being formulated with petrolatum, a controversial skincare ingredient that's known to lock in moisture, yes, but also block it out. According to some dermatologists, it's because of this ingredient that so many people find ChapStick to be addictive — petrolatum makes lips feel hydrated on contact but since it barricades against outside moisture, it can make them feel chapped in the long run, unless you religiously reapply.
Secondly (and, okay, kind of snobbily), I assumed that there was no way that a $4 ChapStick tinted lip balm could compare to my beloved $38 Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick Balm.
As a result, when I opened the mailer, I automatically thought of my mom and sister, who I know both use ChapStick. I put every tube in a bag for them and held onto the Rose Petal shade thinking that I should at least try one. (Hey, I get a LOT of samples, there's no way I can try every👏 single👏 one👏 Don't @ me)
