    Changing Modes

Brooklyn band releases some grrrl rock with burst of pop.

Changing Modes is a Brooklyn based band creating Art Rock that is reminiscent of PJ Harvey, the Dresden Dolls and a little like Blondie. Their songs are quirky, poppy and really fun. If I had synesthesia (which I don't but desperately wish I did), I imagine bursts of color and flowers would emerge from guitar sound holes accompanied by riot girrrl go-go dancers feeling the vibe. By definition of synesthesia this may not be scientifically accurate however in my world synesthesia creates visual parties to personify the music.

Their recent album, In Flight, will be released April 13th but you can hear the streaming link here. Their new music is super catchy with 90s punk and 80s new wave influence. After hearing a few tracks it isn't surprising that they have opened for Brandi Carlile, Howie Day and The Ditty Bops.

Changing Modes is made up of 5 musicians, Wendy Griffiths on vocals/ keyboards/ bass, Grace Pulliam on vocals/ keyboards/ percussion, Denise Mei Yan Hofmann on guitar, bass, vocals, Yuzuru Sadashige on bass/ guitar/ vocals and Timur Yusef on drums/ vocals. The multiple vocalists, keys and guitars develop a collaborative vibe reminding you this is a real band working together in every note. The collaboration is heard in their music and seen in their videos, as it looks like they actually having fun together. You can check out more of their videos here.
