1. The Bike That Can't Be Stolen

Since bicycle theft is such a big problem in Chile, three students set out to change the statistics. They created a frame that "could be taken apart and used as a lock," thus making it harder to steal. Expect it to be available for purchase "in less than two years."

2. The Spidey Suit

Engineering students at Utah State University created a superhero-like suit for those in the Air Force in 2012. They wanted soldiers to be able to reach the peak of a building "in less than a minute." Thanks to their design, soldiers are able to scale a wall without ropes using a vacuum-like device.

3. The Nail Polish That Detects Drugs

Recently, there's been a lot of buzz about Undercover Colors, the nail polish that supposedly detects date rape drugs. The four students who created it claim "women who wear the polish can simply swirl their fingers in a drink to test it for any colorless, odorless compound that may have been slipped in." They are still working to advance their product to a fully functioning stage.

4. The Disc That Purifies Water

Undergrads at the University of Virginia had their work cut out for them when they started to create the MadiDrop — now called PureMadi — "a ceramic disc infused with silver." Thanks to the magic of science, when the silver ions are discharged, the water becomes clean. It went into the field-testing stage in 2013.

5. The 30-Second Phone Charger

Eesha Khare not only designed this accessory, but she actually built a prototype and showed off how great it worked at the California State Science Fair last year. Inspired by the perils of her dead cell phone, the young lady may have stumbled onto something even bigger — Intel says "Eesha’s invention has potential applications for car batteries."

6. The Device That Identifies Concussions

When they were attending MIT, Ben Harvatine and Seth Berg created "a wearable teach sensor clip that can detect and alert parents and coaches to concussions and potential serious head injuries." A Kickstarter campaign was launched in August, hoping to bring the project to the public. We all know how helpful it would be.

7. The Automatic Cat Feeder

Jonathan Geissler may be the answer to all traveling cat owners' prayers. While studying at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville, he invented a contraption "that dispenses wet cat food, one serving at a time, in scheduled intervals over a period of about a week." The HealthPet Auto-Feeder is currently in a conceptual stage.

8. The Waterless Toilet

While drawing toilets on her thesis instead of writing it, graduate student Liz Morris came up with the design for the Dungaroo. Every time it's flushed, antimicrobial pellets are spread "over the waste, rendering it odorless and killing germs without using water or harsh chemicals." Who wouldn't want to use that at next summer's music festivals?

9. The Gel That Stops Extreme Blood Loss

Veti-Gel was created by Joe Landolina while in his junior year at NYU Polytechnic. The revolutionary goo "dramatically speeds the body’s natural clotting so that deep wounds, even those to arteries or internal organs, are able to close up within seconds." It has potential to revolutionize the way we heal.

10. The Printed Makeup

By now all we know 3D printing is a real, exciting thing, and what you can create with it is almost limitless. That's where Grace Choi, a student at Harvard Business School, saw an opportunity. She created a product called Mink, an affordable printer that lets users take "any color that they come across online and print it out as an eye shadow, blush, or lip gloss using the same ink found in a home printer." How awesome is that?
