The Radium Girls by Kate Moore. The fact that it’s a true story just shook me to my core. As a hypochondriac, this was an absolute nightmare to read. I couldn’t finish it. I just kept thinking to myself: is plastic the “radium” of today?!

Omg THIS BOOK. I was so stressed and disturbed the entire time while reading it. It was like a train wreck: I wanted to look away but I couldn’t!

My favorite is when I have to read a word I have no idea how to pronounce. If I say it confidently enough, my students won’t question it! Haha

There’s a difference between equality (everyone getting the same thing) and equity (everyone getting what they need). Teachers strive for equity. Students may see certain things teachers say and do for students and not know the whole story (like 504s and IEPs, for example)

audreym4e467c33f commented on What Questions Have You Always Wanted To Ask Teachers?

It’s honestly to make sure we’re doing our job. If my instruction is truly effective, then every single student in my classroom should know the answer (in a perfect world). If a student, or better yet, multiple students don’t know, then it’s a good indication I need to go back to…

audreym4e467c33f commented on What Questions Have You Always Wanted To Ask Teachers?

I’ve gotten incredibly fast at it. I have a super efficient rubric that I use and then I identify the strongest part of the essay and the weakest part and explain why. That’s it. I teach middle school and I feel that it’s crucial to be timely. If too much time passes, the students…

I’m a teacher and I had a student tell me I remind them of Miss Honey from Matilda. I was a first-year teacher at the time struggling to keep my head above water. I cried. My lesson plans were a mess but my students felt loved. It put everything back into perspective for me.
