10 Emotional Sucker Punches From Film

All movies try at some level to evoke emotion based on the story that is being told. I've picked a few scenes that are notable for their ability to hit you in the gut, so to speak. I've left out obvious classics and stuck to movies from the last two decades. But feel free to add your own! :D

  • A.I. Blue Fairy

There are two other scenes from this movie that could have been eligible for this list. If you've seen it, you know what I mean. If you haven't, now is a good chance to watch it.

  • Toy Story 2: When Somebody Loved Me

Admittedly more of a music video than a scene, but still relevant. The only disappointing thing about Toy Story 2 is that it would have been cool if Andy's mom owned Jessie.

  • Cast Away - Wilson

Although they never showed it, I like to think that maybe after they rescued Chuck they launched a search and rescue mission for Wilson.

  • Gladiator - Now We Are Free

Maybe another list needs to be made that is called "Movies that make guys cry".

  • Artax dies in the Swamp of Sadness

Do they make movies for children where beloved characters die anymore?

  • Up - Married Life - Carl & Ellie

In five minutes, Pixar manages to show what it takes other movies hours to do. Some television series, many seasons.

  • Spock's Death and Funeral

Bringing Spock back sort of ruined this scene, but oh well.

  • Requiem for a Dream

One of those fantastic movies that I can't watch again.
Click the title to watch the scene on Youtube. Embedding disabled by request and all that.

  • The Shawshank Redemption Escape Reenactment

Sometimes finding clips is a bit difficult. So here is a clip of what the clip may have looked like.

  • No Country For Old Men - Call It, Friend-O

There is a Youtube comment on this clip that mentions the outstanding job the actor playing the shopkeeper did. It took two very talented actors to pull this scene off and one of them is Gene Jones.

  • "I Am Legend" Official Alternate Ending

In the novel I Am Legend, the character Robert Neville concludes that he will be looked upon as humans once looked at vampires -- monsters, shadows in the dark, an ancient legend. He is now that legend. The official cut of the movie does a poor job reflecting that, however. This alternate ending really should have been the only ending.
