10 Times I Lost My Sh*t Watching "Hamilton" The Musical

"I can't even." — Me (and Alexander Hamilton, probably)

Posted on

1. When I looked at my playbill and realized Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights), who stars as Hamilton, also wrote the book, music and lyrics.

Watching him act and knowing he created the whole damn show (well, almost) was more than my brain could handle.

2. When the show began and I realized Hamilton is a modern-day hip-hop musical.

OK, I went into this show knowing absolutely nothing besides it being about Alexander Hamilton. I am also a terrible American and basically knew next to nothing about Alexander Hamilton's story, so this was an educational experience for me (lol pathetic) and also the most enjoyable.

3. When the ensemble came out in awesome costumes and hair/makeup.

What I loved about this is that the story takes place long ago, but the show is a modernized version where the ladies sport kickass hair styles and the costumes allow the cast to show their serious dance skills.

4. The scene where the cast sang "Aaron Burr, Sir" and made a "IT'S SHOWTIME" joke.

My New York heart died, because anyone who frequents the subway knows exactly what this is. Also, the raps in the song are 🔥 🔥 🔥.

5. When Jonathan Groff walked onstage as King George and slayed with his hilarious number and brilliant sass.

Groff is disappointingly not in this show enough, but his pop-ups were such a gift. He had the audience dying laughing*. Here is an actual lyric: "And when push comes to shove, I will send a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love da dada da da."

*Not literally, but basically.

6. When Leslie Odom Jr., who plays Aaron Burr, sang "The Room Where It Happens."

Oh man, this is such a good song. It's just so catchy. I've sang this repeatedly since I saw the show back in July.

8. When Jasmine Cephas Jones, who plays Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds, totally killed "Say No To This."

All the Hamilton ladies are amazing, but Jones' pipes are so sultry and soulful that you can't stop listening.

Also, this scene upset me (because like I said, I know nothing about history), but I somehow went away loving this song the most.

10. Basically the entire show. It was honestly just really, really good and THE 👏 MUSIC 👏 IS 👏 ON 👏 POINT 👏.

The cast, the music, the set, the costumes, the direction, everything. It really is worth the buzz.

Hamilton is now open on Broadway.

You can temporarily listen to the whole cast recording here before it drops on Sept. 25.
