The ever-amazing indie bookseller Powell's isn't waiting for Black Friday to start offering its holiday savings. You can choose two titles from its "Wintersalen" collection and get a third one free; or, for more options, take 30% off any of their holiday favorites, which include some of the best in this year's fiction and nonfiction.

2. Housing Works Bookstore Cafe, New York

Not only is everything in the store 30% off on Friday, Nov. 28 — that includes rare books, vinyl, brand-new stationery, DVD box sets, and more — but also, you can enjoy happy hour discounts in the cafe: cheap coffee, pastries, wine, and beer.

6. Elliott Bay Book Company, Seattle

No specific post-Thanksgiving sales at this iconic Seattle bookshop, but they do have an impressive schedule of authors popping in on Saturday — including Sherman Alexie! — who will be selling and signing their own books, plus recommending others.

9. Magers and Quinn, Minneapolis

Magers and Quinn has a whole weekend of savings, in store only — 20% off everything on Thanksgiving Day, 20% off fiction on Black Friday, 20% off kids' books on Saturday, and 20% off cooking books on Sunday — but if you stop in on Small Business Saturday, you'll enjoy the additional bonus of seeing local authors acting as booksellers.

While we strongly believe in supporting our local booksellers, we'd be remiss to leave out what is also a really great sale: From Nov. 28 to 30, the bookstore behemoth is offering 50% off "gift books" (seemingly a collection of big, beautiful books geared to specific interests and fandoms); buy one, get one 50% off on collectible editions, discounted book-themed merch, and an additional 30% off one item of your choice. Nook sales and limited-supply signed editions of select books are happening in-store only.
