When I was little my grandma read me a story called Little Black Sambo. I later heard that it was banned and I couldn't understand why until I saw a copy as an adult. It wasn't the story but the illustrations are very offensive to people of color.

Finding Neverland the story of Peter Pan was inspired by a family of boys and their mother, but the movie shows the author spending a lot of time with the widowed mother and ignoring his wife. In reality the father of the boys was alive and the two of them were friends.

In the eighties there was a show called The Great Space Coaster that I loved to watch with my siblings. I don't think it was around for long. Most everyone I've mentioned it to doesn't know what I'm talking about.
