There are hunters who go for years without bagging a turkey.
And then, there's Blake Brooks.
Blake went hunting with his dad, Bryan Brooks, and older brother, 18-year-old Dakota Janney, Saturday morning and came home with a gobbler, his first time out.
He saw it, he aimed, he fired and he killed it, shot it right through the neck as his dad had instructed him.
He is 4 years old.
"I went ker-pow," Blake said. "When the gun went off, he went down."
Blake was pretty proud himself, showing off his approximately 18-pound bird, ruffling its feathers as he talked about the hunt.
"One shot and he was done," his dad said.
The gun jumped and hit Blake on the cheek. He put the gun down and turned to his dad, looking like he might cry. Then, they told him he hit the turkey and that made it better, he said. He had a bruise on his cheek from the recoil, a badge of honor now that he bagged a turkey.
